Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos once tried to lure him to Real Madrid.
Lewandowski has been widely regarded as one of the best strikers in Europe for some time and, as such, has been linked with moves to the likes of Real Madrid.
Could Lewandowski have signed for Real Madrid? Five key things to know…
- Lewandowski became the highest scoring non-German player in the Bundesliga last weekend, scoring his 197th goal.
- He has reached that tally across 281 games for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
- Since arriving at the Allianz Arena, Lewandowski has won four straight Bundesliga titles.
- Lewandowski has finished as Bundesliga top goalscorer on three separate occasions.
- But the Polish striker has now admitted Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos tried to get him to sign for Real Madrid.
Lewandowski has been at Bayern since 2014, joining from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. But the Polish striker has admitted there have been attempts to lure him to Madrid.
When asked if the rumours that Ronaldo and Ramos tried to bring him to the Bernabeu were true, he told BBC 5 Radio Live: “Yeah, but you know, if you play at the high level, everyone says ‘He can move there or there or there’, but it’s not important for me.”
“Because I know the feeling, and I know after what everyone has said, so many teams want you, but the most important thing is what I want.
“And what I decide. So this time I’m not thinking about another move in my career.
“If you’re playing at one of the best clubs in Europe, in the world, you know you can be happy.
“And I’m happy being at Bayern Munich. Because what we have here is high level. And if you play here it’s simple – you have to be focused on your game, give the fans what they want and what the team needs.”
Standing as the league’s highest-scoring non-German, Lewandowski has definitely delivered on that front.

Bayern’s Bundesliga revival
Early in the season, Bayern’s stranglehold over the Bundesliga looked to be under threat.
Losses to Hertha Berlin, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach saw them lag behind. However, winning 10 of their last 11 league games has catapulted them back to the top of the league.
As it stands, they are level on points with Dortmund on 57 but are ahead on goal difference. So even though their revival has been impressive, the league isn’t sewed up yet.
With nine games left both sides have everything to play for and are still yet to play each other since the turn of the year.
That game comes on April 8 and could go a long way to determining the Bundesliga winners for this season.
