Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has revealed which stoppers he believes to be the best in world football.
The Liverpool ‘keeper who joined from Roma in the summer has laid out which two goalkeepers in particular he believes deserve to be mentioned as ‘greats’.
The Reds had been chasing a new custodian for a while and their need was made all the greater after two mistakes from Loris Karius cost them the Champions League final against Real Madrid at the end of last season.
After a protracted chase they eventually brought home their target after Roma agreed to a fee reportedly in the region of £71m.
He has settled in quickly on Merseyside but admits that if he is to be labelled the worlds greatest there are two he must compete with.
“I like [Jan] Oblak; he’s one I follow very closely,” Alisson revealed to Goal. “And [Marc-Andre] Ter Stegen. Both of them are greats.
“There are others, but at this point, these are the ones that are showing more.
“Very high technical level, very high concentration level too; they are raising the competition level among us goalkeepers.
“It’s a healthy competition to see which of us will be the best at the end of the year.”
Liverpool have made an excellent start to the season though were shocked by Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday when they suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat.
In the Premier League however it has been plain sailing as Jurgen Klopp’s side remain unbeaten after 11 games and sit just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
They face Fulham on Sunday and given the start the Cottagers have made you’d expect to see Liverpool pick up another three points.
How does Alisson compare?
The Brazilian goalkeeper has admitted he admires both Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen but how do his numbers compare to them both?
Alisson has conceded an average of 0.71 goals per game compared to Oblak’s 0.83 and Ter Stegen’s 1.12.
He has a shots saved percentage of 74% compared to Oblak’s 73% and Ter Stegen’s 72%.
He has a pass accuracy of 90% level with Ter Stegen and above the 81% of Oblak.
