Carlo Ancelotti says the idea of winning the Serie A title this year “must be a dream” and “not a utopia”.
Napoli are currently second in the Italian top tier, six points behind Juventus and three ahead of Inter in third.
The Napolitan club narrowly lost out to Juventus last season with Maurizio Sarri in charge, but Ancelotti has surprised many with his strong start to life in charge at his new club.
Napoli have not won the Scudetto since 1990.
“The Scudetto must be a dream, not a utopia,” Ancelotti told DAZN, via Football Italia.
“If it were a utopia that would be a disaster. We can only reach it with a huge feat, we must always remain focused.”
Ancelotti also commented on how he was finding life in Naples, adding: “Naples? I’d like to live here for a long time. I like the air I’m breathing, even if I’m a man of the north.”
Ancelotti was then asked why he has had an at-times prickly relationship with Italian media.
“The questions that annoy me most in the post-match are about the choices you made.
“We Coaches see the team for a whole week in training and make our choices based on that, it’s about small details.
“Abroad the game is spoken about for 10 minutes, in Italy instead you need to stop for an hour with the various broadcasters and then a few more live.
“That’s why I’m not surprised by the reactions from some Coaches, and can even understand them. In those situations, if they ask you the wrong questions, ignorance can come out.”
Napoli take on bottom-placed Chievo in the league after the international break on November 25, with the Partonopei expecting a win.
