Besiktas president denies rumours club want to send Loris Karius back to Liverpool

Besiktas president Fikret Orma has denied suggestions the Turkish club want to send Loris Karius back to Liverpool, revealing they are hopeful of signing the goalkeeper on a permanent deal.

Karius has endured a difficult few months, starting with his infamous double blunder in Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in May.

After joining Besiktas on a two-year loan, the 25-year-old has continued with his struggle to find form and there have been suggestions the Super Lig side want him to return to his parent club.

However, Orma has refuted those claims and suggested the opposite, insisting Besiktas want Karius to become a permanent member of the squad.

“Karius is an excellent keeper, God willing we will sign him on a permanent transfer,” Orma told Turkish outlet Harberle (via Sky Sports).

“These stories are complete nonsense. Give Karius some time is all I’m saying. Karius has a lot of work to do but give him time.”

Does Karius have a future at Liverpool?

In response to Karius’ Champions League final nightmare, Liverpool parted ways with a huge fee to sign Alisson Becker from AS Roma over the summer.

The Brazilian has made an impressive start to life at Anfield, conceding just five goals in 12 Premier League appearances so far.

Karius took over from Simon Mignolet as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper midway through last season, but it’s difficult to see the German returning to Jurgen Klopp’s squad in the future.

The Merseysiders face Watford in the Premier League after the current international break and are just two points behind leaders Manchester City, with both teams yet to lose a game.
