Joe Cole picks out the most talented teammate of his career

Former Premier League playmaker Joe Cole has named the most talented player he has ever played with.

The former England international announced his retirement from football last week following a highly successful career playing for the likes of West Ham United, Chelsea, Liverpool and the Three Lions.

The tricky midfielder spent the final years of his career with United Soccer League side Tampa Bay Rowdies before deciding that his time as a professional footballer had come to an end.

Cole spoke to reporters about the highs and lows of his career and revealed the one player that stood above the rest as the best he had the privilege to play with.

Cole told Sky Sports: “You look at all the English boys – Gerrard, Frank [Lampard], JT [John Terry], Rooney, Rio [Ferdinand].

“Also the foreign players like [Arjen] Robben and Hazard… I could go on forever.  You realise you’re playing with geniuses.

“If my life depended on it I would pick Hazard [as the best].”

Cole played with Hazard when the pair played for Ligue 1 side Lille in 2011 and the Belgium international clearly made an ever-lasting impression on Cole.

“He was 19 when I played with him in France and even then he was just so talented. He had everything. He’s just a great player.

“I think he’ll go on to win the Ballon d’Or, I really think he’s that good.”
