Michael Laudrup turned down the opportunity to manage his former club Real Madrid, according to his agent.
Madrid sacked Julen Lopetegui following the club’s horrific 5-1 loss to arch-rivals Barcelona, just 138 days after he took the job in the summer.
Santiago Solari has been announced as interim boss for the time being but Madrid’s hunt for a permanent manager continues.
According to Laudrup’s agent, Madrid registered their interest in bringing their former player onboard as interim coach.
Despite the affiliation between the two parties, Laudrup isn’t interested in taking over Madrid at the moment.
“He is not looking for the chance to coach Madrid, not in these circumstances,” Laudrup’s agent Byram Tutumlu told Diario AS (via Football Espana).
“This is not the right time for such a role, you just need to look at how the situation at the club is at the moment.
“He loves Real Madrid and he would be delighted to [join] them in the future.”
Laudrup’s availability
The Dane would be available instantly as he is currently unemployed following a spell in Qatar with Al-Rayyan.
After his retirement from playing, Laudrup has had managerial spells at Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow, Mallorca and Premier League side Swansea City.
While based in Wales, Laudrup was there to oversee the club’s Football League Cup triumph in 2012. He was also the first Dane to manage in the Premier League.
