Sergio Ramos enters the field as if he invented football, says Jorge Valdano

Former Real Madrid player and manager Jorge Valdano has praised the leadership qualities of Sergio Ramos, saying he “enters the field as if he invented football.”

Ramos has been an absolute stalwart for Real Madrid during his 13 years at the club so far, winning four La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and two Copa del Rey crowns among his many honours.

The 32-year old has also scored 78 goals in 583 games for Los Blancos, with the centre-back often popping up with huge goals at crucial moments for club and country.

And Valdano believes it is his supreme confidence that lets him stand up when some of his teammates may go hiding.

“Sergio Ramos enters the dressing room as if Real Madrid belonged to him and onto the field as if he invented football,” Valdano said in El Pais.

“When the other players hide, he challenges the world with a Panenka penalty.”

After making a poor start to the season under Julen Lopetegui, new boss Santiago Solari seems to have steadied the ship for Real Madrid.

The club have won their last four games in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and conceding just twice during that time – two of those goals have been Sergio Ramos penalties.

Los Blancos travel to Eibar on Saturday for their next game.
