Spurs have a better chance of winning a cup than the Premier League, says Sissoko

Tottenham Hotspur have a better chance of winning a cup competition than the Premier League title, according to Moussa Sissoko.

Spurs lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City on Monday evening, which leaves them five points off first place in the league.

Currently sitting fifth, Tottenham do not seem to be part of a three-horse race for the Premier League title, which looks to be between City, Liverpool and Chelsea who all remain unbeaten after 10 games.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have already lost three times in the league this season – against Watford, Liverpool and now City – which has convinced club winger Sissoko to reveal that their best chance of silverware this campaign is via a cup competition.

Reflecting on their loss to the current league champions, Sissoko believes that cup football is more straightforward for the lily-white side of north London.

Speaking before Wednesday’s EFL Cup win at West Ham via the official Tottenham Hotspur website, Sissoko said: “We have good quality in this group and we all want to win something together.

“We know in the cup it is more straightforward to win because you don’t have so many games, but it won’t be easy because you have some good teams to play.

“We have to take our chance, play every game and try to win every game until the final.

“This is what we want, and I hope at the end of the season we will get some trophies. It’s going to be a massive derby match on Wednesday [against West Ham United], so we have to make sure to win this game.”

Spurs will face Arsenal at the Emirates in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup after overcoming West Ham in midweek.

Only 10 games into the league season and just five points off the top, perhaps it’s a little too early for Sissoko to condemn the club’s chances of winning the Premier League, despite the unlikelihood of it actually materialising.
