This season’s instalment of Football Manager has been released and millions of fans are in the midst of scouting, signing, planning and finalising their squads ahead of a new campaign.
As is always the case this brilliant simulation picks out some of the best talents in the world, accurately depicting their potential even before they come to the attention of the wider world.
The games longevity means developing a long term strategy will be as important as ever and signing young talents should be a key part of most people’s FM blueprint.
With that in mind here are the top seven wonderkids with the highest potential rating on Football Manager 2019 in Serie A – each player must be 21 or under to make the cut.
7. Federico Chiese – (171 potential)
Club: Fiorentina
Top attributes: Off the ball, dribbling, natural fitness and pace.
Son of the famous Enrico the Fiorentina winger burst onto the scene in 2016/17 and has improved year-on-year since then.
He poses great pace and intelligence that has seen him become one of Europe’s hottest prospects. During that first season with the Viola he netted three times in 27 Serie A appearances before doubling his goals return the season after.
Depending on which club you are managing it is not out of the realms of possibility that you would be able to persuade the Italian international to leave Florence although don’t expect him to come cheap.
With over 70 senior appearances in Italy’s top division he is already an established star despite his young age.
6. Nicolo Barella – (172 potential)
Club: Cagliari
Top attributes: Aggression, determination, work rate, stamina and natural fitness
The Sardinian born midfielder is living the dream playing for his local side, who themselves won the Serie A title in 1970.
The club have never gotten close to recapturing those glory years but have a good record at producing exciting young talent. Nicolo Barella is the latest to come through the club and will almost certainly go on to greater things.
As his attributes suggest he is a beast in the centre of the park and will become a key turbine in your midfield should you be able to stump up the cash to get him off the island.
Given the fact that Cagliari are not on of Serie A’s top clubs that may not be as hard as you think.
5. Lautoro Martinez – (-9)
Club: Inter Milan
Top attributes: Determination, technique, anticipation, finishing and first touch.
With international caps already under his belt Martinez is a technically gifted striker whose reputation and performances in Argentina with Racing Club got him a big move to Internazionale this summer.
His determination coupled with his excellent first touch and pristine technique means that he will be a star in almost any side should you be able to harness his potential.
In Football Manager, ‘-9’ potential means that their potential rating will range between 150-180, a very high standard of player.
Being at a club like Inter means he may have to wait his turn for a starting place. This is where you could take advantage either with a sneaky loan move or should the player become hungry for more minutes you might be able to eke out a permanent deal.
If you do that we will have to start calling you Sir.
4. Sandro Tonali – (-9)
Club: Brescia
Top attributes: Composure, passing and determination
Being a talented young midfielder from Brescia you are always going to be likened to the great Andrea Pirlo but Sandro Toneli may be just that.
Earmarked as the next great regista or deep-lying playmaker, Toneli is certainly a player with the world at his feet now it is up to you to put an offer together that will sweep him off them.
Playing in Serie B will mean you will probably be able to attract him to your side but it may still take a sizeable offer to seal the deal.
3. Alban Lafont – (-9)
Club: Fiorentina
Top attributes: Jumping reach, reflexes, determination, natural fitness and stamina.
At 6ft 4” Alban Lafont is a sizable talent and the French ‘keeper has already established himself as a number one stopper.
In three season in Ligue 1 with Toulouse the young goalkeeper made 98 league appearances and is still only 19-years-old. He moved to Florence to join the Viola this summer in a €7m deal so signing him could be a tough prospect.
Fiorentina will not want to let such an important player leave and considering he has only recently joined you may have to wait at least one season before making an offer.
If you are at a top club then you should be able to get him and if so what a player you will have on your hands.
2. Moise Kean – (-9)
Club: Juventus
Top attributes: Natural fitness, agility, determinations and off the ball.
Moise Kean is a prodigious talent who has already proven he can be deadly in Serie A. Last season, while on loan at the ever so hopeless Hellas Verona, the young striker stood out like a sore thumb.
His ability to cut in from both flanks mean he can be used as an effective inside forward but he is most deadly when played down the middle. His physical power at such a young age means he is already a handful when playing with his back to goal but his great agility makes him even more difficult to shake off the ball when running straight at defenders.
His four goals in 19 appearances last season are just the tip of the iceberg and if you can nab him on loan you will already have a top striker in your squad but if you develop him he can become a world beater.
1. Gianluigi Donnnarumma – (-95)
Club: AC Milan
Top attributes: Jumping reach, teamwork, reflexes, aerial reach, agility and balance.
Donnarumma is the stand out talent in Italian football. He has already established himself as Milan and Italy’s number one despite still only being 19-years-old.
He is not yet the complete package but with a potential rating of -95, which should give him a ceiling of up to 190 potential ability, he is certainly earmarked to be a great.
Prying the ‘keeper away from San Siro will be a massive challenge but if you are playing the game as one of Europe’s elite clubs then he may well be worth splashing the cash to get.
After all they do say build from the back and in Donnarumma there is no better place to start.
Best of the rest – (-85)
Italy has a host of players with a potential rating of -85 and with this translating to a potential ability of somewhere between 150-170 then they will definitely be worth looking at.
Amongst this group are some well-known performers like Justin Kluivert of Roma and Patrick Cutrone of AC Milan but others to watch out for are Cagliari’s central defender Filippo Romagna and Luca Pellegrini of AS Roma.
Here is the full list so make sure you set your scouts to work and eke out every penny from your chairman in order to sign some of Italy’s best young talent:
