Manchester City star Raheem Sterling was given a ticking off by club boss Pep Guardiola following the Manchester derby at the weekend.
Last Sunday, the Citizens defeated Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side 3-1 at the Etihad to strengthen their grip at the top of the Premier League table.
Goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero and İlkay Gündoğan secured a massive three points for the blue half of Manchester, with Anthony Martial scoring a penalty for the visitors.
As the match came to a close, Sterling was seen showboating on the ball, with the England international treating the home support to some stepovers and trickery on the ball.
Guardiola was far from impressed with these actions and at full-time promptly went up to Sterling and had a strong word about his unsportsmanlike attitude.
Speaking to reporters, via the Telegraph, after the match, Guardiola confirmed that Sterling played fantastically throughout the 90 minutes but needs to avoid these moments occurring once more.
“He made some movements with the legs, we can avoid it, but he is young, he can improve. But I like a lot how he played.”
Following on from last season’s title win, City are flying high at the top of the Premier League once again, two points clear of second-placed Liverpool, 12 points ahead of eighth-placed Manchester United and after 12 league matches, they remain one of three teams who are unbeaten at this stage.
