Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has confirmed last month’s training ground disagreement between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho was caused by an Instagram post.
Video footage showed Mourinho confronting Pogba in training the morning after United’s EFL Cup penalty shootout defeat to Championship side Derby County.
It was suggested at the time that Mourinho wasn’t happy with a video Pogba posted on Instagram that showed the Frenchman laughing with teammates Pereira and Luke Shaw during the Derby defeat.
Pereira has now confirmed the training ground confrontation was a result of the video but insists it was posted when United were winning 1-0.
“Pogba posted the video before [United lost] and it was me and Luke Shaw laughing, we were winning the game 1-0 at the time of the video,” Pereira told UOL Esporte.
“It was said that Pogba posted it later, but he posted it before, and the coach thought that Pogba had posted it later.
“He (Mourinho) asked him why it happened. There was a mood about that.”
Pogba and Pereira
Mourinho’s feud with Pogba has shown no real signs of being cleared up, but the midfielder continues to be picked by his manager.
Pogba has made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring four goals. He has also attempted more shots on target than any other player in the Premier League (14).
Meanwhile, Pereira has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford since returning from Valencia, where he spent last season on loan.
The Brazil international has played only 168 minutes of football in all competitions this term.
United face Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
