Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: Less injury pressure at Liverpool than Arsenal

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has thanked Liverpool supporters for their sympathy and encouragement as he looks to return from injury.

The 25-year-old midfielder joined the Reds from Arsenal in the summer of 2017, subsequently ending a six-year association with the north Londoners. He’d go on to play a prominent role in his first campaign at Anfield before suffering a serious knee injury in their Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against AS Roma.

Although successful, the operation on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s knee will keep him out for most of the season, but the England international can take comfort from the support he’s received from Liverpool fans around the world – a far cry from his experiences at Arsenal.

“I’ve had injuries in the past where it’s been difficult,” he told the club’s official website.

“The pressure from fans has been ‘he’s injured again’ or ‘we can’t trust him he’s always injured’.

“But I’ve got injured here and I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from the fans, which for me I can’t thank them enough.

“That’s what keeps me going every day to try and reward their patience and support.”

A desire to play in a more central role and not becoming a utility man ultimately saw Oxlade-Chamberlain seek an exit from Arsenal whom he joined from boyhood club Southampton in 2011.

He’d leave north London having made no fewer than 198 appearances for the Gunners, registering 20 goals and 32 assists in the process, while collecting three FA Cup crowns.

Since moving to Anfield the 32-time capped England international had to bide his time before Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp unleashed him and Oxlade-Chamberlain repaid his manager’s faith by putting in some notable performances.

To date he’s played 42 times for the Reds: bagging five goals and creating a further eight for his teammates.
