Stewart Robson believes Alexandre Lacazette works harder for Arsenal than he did at Lyon.
The 27-year-old French marksman ended a nine-year association with his boyhood club when he swapped southern France for north London in the summer of 2017.
He’s since become a firm fan favourite and has surprising some observers including ex-Gunners midfielder Robson, who after watching play for Les Gones felt he lacked the intensity to become a success in England.
“I watched Lacazette a lot at Lyon and I know one or two other scouts went to watch him,” he told Love Sport (via Express Sport).
“We all came back and went: ‘He’s scored goals but he’s a bit lazy and I’m not sure he made enough runs. He didn’t hold up the play when he had his back to goal.
“I think he’s changed at Arsenal. He does make better runs, he is a better character than he was when he was playing for Lyon. He’s a player that I thought would probably leave Arsenal at the end of last season and wouldn’t be wanted but now he’s a player that is scoring goals and is looking a real threat.
“Along with Aubameyang, they look as though they could form a good partnership at some point.”
Laca the Gunner
On arrival Lacazette became Arsenal’s most expensive acquisition, after the Gunners parted with £46.5m to acquire his signature, but that record only stood for only a few months before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang broke it.
His debut campaign, which saw him struggle on a few occasions, finished with the Lyon-born striker bagging 17 goals across 39 matches in all competitions.
All but three goals came in the Premier League and while forging a partnership with Aubameyang, Lacazette has begun this season well having registered six goals in 15 matches.
However, his international career has come to a standstill, Lacazette – called-up for France’s recent international fixtures before pulling out with injury – won his 16th and last cap last November against Germany.
