Borussia Dortmund activate Paco Alcacer’s Barcelona buy-out clause

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the permanent signing of Paco Alcacer from Barcelona.

The Spanish forward has been in fine form for Dortmund in the Bundesliga since joining on loan in the summer, helping Lucien Favre’s side top the Bundesliga.

  1. Paco Alcacer joined Barcelona in X but struggled to get into the first team, due to the presence of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
  2. The striker was then loan to Borussia Dortmund in the summer, with an option to buy entered into the contract.
  3. Alcacer’s goalscoring form has seen Dortmund impress at the start of the season, currently seven points clear of defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
  4. And now the club had triggered the buyout clause in his contract, signing him on a deal until 2023.

Despite his good goalscoring record, Alcacer is still not a regular starter for Dortmund, with four of his eight appearances across all competitions coming from the bench.

But, this has not stopped Dortmund triggering the option, with sporting director Michael Zorc speaking highly of the striker to the club’s official website: We have informed FC Barcelona today that we will take up the option.

“Paco is wholeheartedly with us, he has quickly integrated and has become an integral part of our squad.

“He is a real scorer of high footballing quality, which is already some important games has decided for us. We look forward to many more goals and assists from Paco in the coming years.”

Alcacer himself also spoke fondly of his move being made permanent, insisting Dortmund is the right place for him.

He said: “I am very happy in Dortmund, at BVB and in this wonderful team. Borussia Dortmund was and is exactly the right decision for me.

“I will do everything I can, with my performance and goals, to thank you for your trust!”
