How Jurgen Klopp “wowed” Rhian Brewster with show of support to Liverpool youngster

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster has revealed the moment he knew manager Jurgen Klopp cared about him.

The 18-year-old, a graduate of the club’s esteemed youth set-up, is yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds after suffering an ankle ligament injury.

Since establishing himself at youth level, Brewster has attracted the attention of many clubs, but he sees his future at Anfield knowing full well that Klopp is on his side.

“He was texting me throughout the [U17] World Cup, then he called me after we won to say congratulations,” he told FourFourTwo.

“The first time he texted me, I thought, ‘Who’s this?’ I know one JK and that’s Jurgen – it can’t be!

“He said, ‘It’s the boss’ and told me to save his number! I thought, ‘Wow, he cares’.”

The rise of Brewster

Brewster, born and raised in London, would join Chelsea’s youth set-up before moving up north to Liverpool.

So far the centre-forward has bagged 14 goals across 34 appearances for the Reds various youth teams. His performances has seen him earn represent England at U16, U17 and U18 level.

His most prolific spell has come with representing the U17s, where he registered 20 goals in 23 outings, including 8 in 6 as England clinched the 2017 U17 World Cup.

Yet to make his senior Liverpool debut his only squad appearance came at home to Crystal Palace in April 2017 where he was an unused substitute in their 1-2 defeat.
