Christian Pulisic urged to snub Chelsea for Liverpool

Christian Pulisic should move to Liverpool instead of Chelsea, according to former Arsenal striker Paul Mariner.

Pulisic has scored three goals and provided two assists for Borussia Dortmund this season and, despite the emergence of Jadon Sancho, which has meant he is having to work harder for playing time, he is still regarded as one of the hottest prospects in football right now.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool, who are managed by former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp, for some time now, with Chelsea also reportedly interested in the USA international.

And Mariner, who was capped 35 times for England during his playing days, believes Anfield would be the best destination for Pulisic’s development, telling ESPN FC: “He’s just going to go into a hopper of decent footballers who eventually go out on loan [if he signs for Chelsea].

“Is he going to get in the team on this present form? No he’s not.

“He’s still developing as a young player. If you were to ask me for a club he should go to – Liverpool.”

Mariner then added that Klopp’s understanding of the Bundesliga and moulding young talents should be enough persuasion for Pulisic to move to Merseyside.

He added: “Klopp understands the Bundesliga, he understands what it takes to mould a player. He knows him very, very well.

“If Pulisic were to go to Liverpool, the nurturing and the way that Klopp puts his arm around players, I think it would be a fabulous move for him.”

Pulisic is currently on international duty with the USA and is in the squad to face Italy in a friendly on Tuesday.
