Eden Hazard is an “absolute boss” – Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has expressed his admiration for Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, describing him as an “absolute boss”.

The Belgian has been in good form for Chelsea this season, helping the Blues up to third in the Premier League, helping them remain unbeaten so far under new manager Maurizio Sarri while also securing passage into the last-32 of the Europa League and reaching the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Shaqiri, who joined Liverpool in the summer from Stoke City, has also enjoyed an unbeaten start to the Premier League with the Reds two points above Chelsea after 12 games while also currently second in their Champions League group with two games remaining.

The pair have already faced off three times this season for club and country, in the Nations League, Premier League and Carabao Cup with Hazard scoring twice – both coming for Chelsea – and the Belgian winning two of the three games

And on Sunday, Switzerland’s game against Belgium would see Shaqiri and Hazard meet for a fourth time already, with the two nations facing off to decide who would top League A2.

Speaking ahead of the match, when asked which Belgium player he likes most, Shaqiri told Swiss newspaper Blick: “Eden Hazard.

“He’s having an awesome season at Chelsea and is the absolute boss.”

‘Boss’ Hazard’s awesome season

Despite returning late to the club due to his involvement at the World Cup as Belgium finished third, Hazard has been deeply important to Chelsea’s progress so far this season.

The Belgian has played 14 games in all competitions so far, starting nine times including eight in the Premier League.

In that time, Hazard has scored eight goals and recorded four assists, and is Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions so far. However, the Belgian has struggled with an injury of late and has not scored in his past three appearances for the club.
