When is Germany vs Netherlands?

Competition: Uefa Nations League

Venue: Veltins-Arena

Date: Monday, 19 November

Kick-off: 7:45 PM GMT

Match preview

Germany really haven’t had a good year, failing to get out of their group at the World Cup and winning just three games altogether during the calendar year.

And Die Mannschaft end 2018 knowing that no matter what happens against Netherlands on Monday, they will be relegated from Uefa Nations League A and therefore also put into Pot 2 for the European Championship qualifying draw which takes place in December.

Joachim Low’s men have been poor this year and do not look like stopping their slump anytime soon, especially up against a vastly improved Netherlands side on Monday.

After a slow start to 2018, Netherlands have grown as a unit under Ronald Koeman and are looking more and more like the exciting team which reached the 2010 World Cup final and threatened to win their first major trophy.

In their last two competitive games, de Oranje have overturned both Germany and France without conceding, beating the past two world champions 3-0 and 2-0 respectively at home.

But Monday’s trip may just be the biggest game of Koeman’s stint so far, with his side set to face a German team wounded from relegation.

Where can I watch live?

Germany’s game against Netherlands can be viewed by UK residents on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Mix, channels 403 and 121 respectively on Sky and channels 503 and 520 respectively, for Virgin Media users.

The game is also available to watch on fuboTV for US-based viewers.

Is Joachim Low’s time up?

After the disaster at the World Cup, some were calling for Joachim Low to be relieved of his duties as Germany manager but he stay put. With Die Mannschaft now relegated, questions will arise yet again and it may be time to bring Low’s 12-year spell in charge to an end.

Something is amiss with Germany, with some of the more influential players ageing and showing signs of slowing down. Now could be the time to start afresh, to ensure that Germany move forward rather than continuing to decline.

Are we witnessing the true rebirth of the Netherlands?

Ronald Koeman is still trying to work out how to get the best of his young talent pool, but the Netherlands are showing signs of slowly improving. First, it was the 3-0 win over Germany which showed the wait for Koeman to take charge was worth it, followed up by a 2-0 win over the defending world champions including a pivotal performance by young Frenkie de Jong.

It may be some time before they compete regularly towards the end of major tournaments, but fun times are definitely on the horizon for the Netherlands.

How can France still finish top of League A1?

After losing to Netherlands on Friday, France will be hoping Germany can defeat their rivals and ensure Les Bleus’ place in the final four, as they currently top League A1.

If Netherlands get their third win of the Nations League, they will finish atop League A1, leapfrogging France and going to the finals in June.

Even a draw would be enough for Netherlands to go through, despite seeing them finish level on points with France, owing to their superior goal difference in the matches played between the two sides courtesy of a 2-0 win and 2-1 defeat.

Head-to-head

Due to missing out on the World Cup this summer, the Netherlands have played just nine games this year, winning only four – drawing three and losing twice. Meanwhile, Germany have managed the same amount wins in their 12 games in 2018, losing six and drawing the other two.

Meeting for the 42nd time on Monday, Germany have the slight advantage over their neighbours with 15 wins to Netherlands’ 11 – though de Oranje were victorious last time out.

Team news

With Germany’s relegation already confirmed, Joachim Low may use this game to plan for the future, though he will be able to call upon Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus who all missed their friendly win over Russia last week.

Meanwhile, Netherlands are unlikely to make too many changes to his side which beat world champions France on Friday, knowing even a draw will see them reach the final four of the Nations League.

Predicted Germany XI: Neuer; Sule, Hummels, Rudiger; Kehrer, Kimmich, Kroos, Schulz; Reus, Gnabry, Sane.

Predicted Netherlands XI:  Cillessen; Dumfries, Van Dijk, de Ligt, Blind; F. de Jong, de Roon; Bergwijn, Wijnaldum, Babel; Depay.

Squawka Prediction

Germany are still winless in the Nations League and it will likely stay that away with Netherlands pushing for top stop. 2-1 Netherlands.

1. Netherlands to win @ 3/1

Despite the troubles Germany are currently in, Die Mannschaft are still surprising favourites to come out on top against the Netherlands on Monday.

But form points in the favour of the visitors, who have something to be playing more as opposed to Germany who will be trying to go out of League A with a win.

At 3/1, the Netherlands are at a surprisingly long price to take the win, something which should be capitalised on.

Key Stat: Netherlands have won their last two Nations League matches.

2. Both teams to score NO @ 11/10

Netherlands have conceded two goals in their three Nations League games this year, though they both came in the opening match against France.

Since then, Koeman’s side have kept consecutive clean sheets against Germany and then France to turn their fortunes around.

To add to that, Germany have managed just one goal in their three Nations League games so far, their most recent match against France.

Key Stat: No team in League A has scored fewer goals than Germany (1).

3. Memphis Depay to score anytime @ 9/5

A part of Netherlands’ wins over France and Germany has been down to Memphis Depay stepping up on the big stage.

Against France last time out, the Lyon forward scored from the penalty spot in injury time to wrap up the win after Georginio Wijnaldum had opened the scoring before half-time.

And in the past match with Germany, Depay put his side out of sight with the second of their three goals, coming in the 87th minute as Die Mannschaft pushed for an equaliser.

Key Stat: Memphis Depay has scored six goals in his last 10 games for the Netherlands.
