Lionel Messi reacts to France fans’ chant for N’Golo Kante

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has insisted that the idea N’Golo Kante played him out of the game in Argentina’s World Cup clash with France is ‘a lie’.

Messi could be overheard speaking about the match in a recent conversation with Paul Pogba.

The pair bumped into each other whilst enjoying a break last week and were filmed speaking to one another in a restaurant on Pogba’s Instagram story.

It seems the topic of the conversation was France’s dramatic World Cup last 16 victory over Argentina and, specifically, N’Golo Kante’s performance on the night.

The France squad created a song for the Chelsea midfielder after the match which included the words “He’s short, he’s nice, he stopped Leo Messi.”

The video on Pogba’s story shows the Manchester United midfielder reciting the song to Messi, before the Argentina striker interrupts and says: ‘That’s a lie!”

France did, of course, go on to win the tournament after beating Croatia in the final.

Messi’s international career: What’s next?

Barcelona star Messi, who will go down as one of the most gifted footballers of all time, has not been named in any of Argentina’s recent squads.

He is yet to confirm his international status amid suggestions that he could call time on his career with Argentina.

There is, of course, a Copa America at the end of this season, and the fact that Messi has not officially retired from international duties would suggest that he will feature at next summers tournament in Brazil.

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni recently claimed that he would like to see Messi back in action for his side in the near future: “I hope Messi is in the future, he is the best player in the world.”

Messi has retired from international football in the past, opting to hang up his boots after Argentina lost the Copa America final to Chile in 2016.

He later reversed his decision after a campaign from La Albiceleste’s supporters.
