Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has urged his former side to seriously consider signing Fulham duo Aleksander Mitrovic and Ryan Sessegnon.
The retired ex-Liverpool star watched Liverpool’s recent 2-0 victory over the Cottagers in the Premier League and despite Fulham’s defeat and poor form, two players clearly caught his eye.
Fulham, who announced the dismissal of Slavisa Jokanovic and hiring of Claudio Ranieri this morning, sit rock bottom of the Premier League but in Mitrovic and Sessegnon, they have two highly talented players.
Both were key cogs in the successful promotion campaign last season and despite the clubs position, Aldridge believes that the London side “weren’t the worst team” he’d seen Liverpool play this season.
He went on to say that both Fulham players could be excellent additions to the Reds squad and they should seriously consider signing them.
“Andy Robertson has been an absolute revelation since he came to Anfield and solved the long-standing left-back issue but I’d still like Liverpool to reignite their interest in Ryan Sessegnon who can play in that position but was being deployed further up the left flank against the Reds,” he wrote in the Liverpool Echo.
“He’s still only 18 but has almost played 100 senior games already.
“I know a lot of clubs are interested in him but he can play at either full-back or in midfield and you can see he’ll go far that lad.
“I was also impressed with Aleksandar Mitrovic. He’s the type of player you’d want coming off the bench, he’s big, strong and scores goals.
“He gives you something that little bit different and I like him as a squad player.”
Liverpool have an array of attacking talent but Aldridge still thinks they could find room for Mitrovic, who he sees as being a different kind of player.
“Maybe it’s not Mitrovic himself, but I think they (Liverpool) could really benefit from having someone like that, a target man who can bring others into the game.”
“The way Liverpool play they could do with someone who provides a bit of diversity and a Plan B.”
Liverpool do have a crop of young players coming through their system but the likes of Dominic Solanke have not made the step up that some expected.
Aldridge still has faith that Solanke can make it but admitted that the Reds may need to look at signing some new players to add depth.
“He can come again, he’s still only a young lad, but we’ll have to just wait and see.
“Somewhere down the line I think Liverpool should be looking to strengthen in that department.”
Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League having not lost a single game in the league this season. They have dropped just six points from a possible 36 and already look to be stronger than in previous campaigns.
They face a trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford after they return to league action following the international break.
