Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi should watch and learn from teammate Pedro, according to Joe Cole.
Hudson-Odoi has made seven appearances for the Blues this season but really turned heads with his two assists for Alvaro Morata as Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Can Hudson-Odoi cut it at Chelsea? Five key things to know…
- Hudson-Odoi has made seven appearances in the Chelsea first team so far this season.
- The 18-year-old impressed on Saturday, providing two assists for Alvaro Morata as the Blues beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the FA Cup.
- The winger has the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro ahead of him in the pecking order out wide.
- Joe Cole, however, believes that Hudson-Odoi can learn from Pedro’s movement off the ball.
- Hudson-Odoi won the U-17 World Cup with England in 2017.
And Joe Cole, who has recently returned to Chelsea as a technical academy coach, hailed the talent of Hudson-Odoi and urged him to take note of fellow winger Pedro, calling the Spaniard’s movement ‘pitch perfect’.
Speaking at the Star Sixes tournament in Glasgow, Cole told Squawka: “I think it’s very important for the club that he [Hudson-Odoi] develops.
“He can really progress. He’s going to learn from Hazard and the other players.
“For me, if I was Hudson-Odoi, I’d be watching Pedro’s movement off the ball because I think for any young player, that is pitch perfect. That’s what you want to be watching.”
Cole also tipped the 18-year-old to ‘go all the way’: “There’s so much capability for him to improve and he’s at the right club.
“He can go all the way. He’s got the talent.”
Joe Cole’s new “roaming role” at Chelsea explained
Having announced his retirement from playing in November, Cole has now returned to the club he spent seven seasons at as a player as a technical academy coach, working across various age groups in the club’s academy while continuing with his coaching qualifications.
The ex-England international described his position as a ‘roaming role’ that is ‘perfect’ for him.
“It’s a perfect job for me,” added the 37-year-old. “It’s a roaming role within the club. I’m going to learn so much and it also gives me an opportunity to help the young lads.
“There’s so much you can give, it’s a two-way thing: I can give them so much and they can give me so much.
“I think the club are happy and I’m certainly happy with it.”
