Arsenal have made an approach to sign winger Ivan Perisic on loan from Inter Milan, according to reports.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to England in the past, though Manchester United were the favoured destination. But with Arsenal hoping to bolster their attack for the second half of the season, the Gunners have become favourites for his signature.
Will Arsenal sign Perisic? Five key things to know…
- Arsenal boss Unai Emery has made it clear he wants to sign a winger this month.
- The club have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Denis Suarez, though no deal has materialised so far.
- Inter Milan are reportedly looking to get rid of Ivan Perisic after a poor start to the season.
- And, according to reports, Arsenal have made an approach to take the Croatian on loan with a £35m option to buy in the summer.
- Perisic has scored just three goals and recorded five assists in 25 games so far this season.
Reports in Italy have suggested Inter Milan are willing to sell Perisic this month following a poor start to the season, with the club putting a £35m price tag on his head.
And according to the BBC, Arsenal have made an approach to sign the Croatian on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy for £35m in the summer.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has always been vocal about his desire for signing a winger this month, though the club are somewhat restricted with the amount they can spend.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round, Emery said: “The club continues to work on that. I think we need – and we can – sign some players to help after our injuries like Rob Holding, like [Danny] Welbeck, like Bellerin.
“The idea is firstly to find the quality. We need a winger for the right or left or some players at centre back. But Dinos Mavropanos is coming back after his injuries and I think I can use him in the next matches.”
Arsenal had previously also been linked with a loan move for Barcelona’s Denis Suarez, but a move for Suarez is yet to happen and, with the transfer window closing on Thursday, time is running out for Arsenal to get their winger.
‘Playing in the Premier League is my dream’
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Perisic this month will undoubtedly be boosted by the winger’s previous comments about a move to England.
Having long been linked with Manchester United while Jose Mourinho was in charge of the Red Devils, Perisic was asked about a potential move to the Premier League.
“I have always said that [playing in the Premier League] is my dream,” Perisic told reporters ahead of Inter Milan’s Champions League group stage match against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in November.
“In football everything is possible, we will see in the future. Now, I’m focusing on Inter.”
