12 done deals you might have missed this week

The January transfer window is fast approaching its climax with clubs now scrambling to get those much-needed reinforcements through the door.

Chelsea’s loan-signing of Gonzalo Higuain has stolen all the headlines this week, with the Argentinean cutting his spell with AC Milan short to join Maurizio Sarri’s side from Juventus.

However, Higuain is by no means the only high-profile transfer to happen this week; here are another 12 you may have missed as a result of his

1. Victor Moses

From: Chelsea

To: Fenerbahce

Fee: Loan

After going from star wing-back to forgotten man in the space of a few months, Victor Moses is on his way out of Chelsea to join Turkish side Fenerbahce on an 18-month loan deal. Yes, that’s right, another loan departure for the Blues.

The Nigerian will need to hit the ground running with the Istanbul giants having a shocking season, currently sitting 15th in the Turkish Super Lig table.

2. Matt Miazga

From: Chelsea

To: Reading

Fee: Loan

Sticking with Chelsea, Matt Miazga was recently recalled from his loan spell with French side Nantes, after managing just eight Ligue 1 appearances since the start of the season.

He joins the January recruitment drive at Reading as the Royals try to fend off Championship relegation, signing at the club on loan until the end of the season.

3. Alexander Isak

From: Borussia Dortmund

To: Willem II

Fee: Loan

One of the most highly-rated, young talents in European football right now, Swedish striker Alexander Isak is off to Eredivisie side, Willem II, on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old has scored five goals in 11 games for Dortmund’s development side and will to look to help Willem’s outside push for a European place.

4. Stefano Sturaro

From: Juventus

To: Genoa

Fee: Loan

Stefano Sturaro has never really been in favour at Juventus and an Achilles injury has only made that worse this season.

The 25-year has now joined fellow Italian club, Genoa, on loan in a bid to get some minutes under his belt and regain some fitness.

5. John Obi Mikel

From: TJ Teda

To: Middlesbrough

Fee: Free

In one of the more unusual and unexpected moves in this transfer window, Middlesbrough have looked to bolster their Championship promotion hopes by signing John Obi Mikel.

The Nigerian midfielder won eight major honours during his time with Chelsea and his experience could prove key at the Riverside, with Boro currently sitting fifth in the Championship table.

6. Krzysztof Piatek

From: Genoa

To: AC Milan

Fee: £30m

Krzysztof Piatek has been one of the most talked about strikers in Europe in recent months after scoring 19 goals in 21 games for Genoa.

The Poland international only joined the Italian club in the summer but such has been his remarkable rise that Serie A giants, AC Milan, have sanctioned a £30m-move for the 23-year-old, replacing Gonzalo Higuain.

7. Mario Balotelli

From: Nice

To: Marseille

Fee: Free

In typical Balotelli style, the Italian has practically gone missing this season after spending the previous two campaigns tearing the French Ligue 1 apart.

The 28-year-old scored 43 goals in his first 66 games for Nice but has failed to find the back of the net in 10 attempts this season, prompting French giants, Marseille, to bring the controversial striker in on a free transfer.

Watch this space.

8. Emiliano Martinez

From: Arsenal

To: Reading

Fee: Loan

With Petr Cech and Bernd Leno ahead of him between the sticks, Emiliano Martinez was never really going to get much game time at Arsenal this season.

Now 26, the shot-stopper has moved to Reading on loan until the end of the season in an attempt to add to his minuscule 57 professional appearances to date.

9. Nelson Oliveira

From: Norwich City

To: Reading

Fee: Loan

Reading really have been busy this week. Joining Miazga and Martinez at the Madejski Stadium is 17-time Portugal international, Nelson Oliveira.

The 27-year-old striker has found himself frozen out at Norwich City this season and will attempt to re-ignite a once-promising career with the Royals, who will be keeping their fingers crossed that his goals can fire them out of relegation trouble in the Championship.

10. Chris Mepham

From: Brentford

To: Bournemouth

Fee: £11.8m

Part of Ryan Giggs’ brave, young Wales side and one of the Championship’s most promising defenders, Chris Mepham has joined Bournemouth for a reported £11.8m fee.

Mepham joins fellow 1997-born David Brookes and Dominic Solanke on the South Coast, with all three being signed for a combined fee of less than £50m. Eddie Howe may well be leaving a legacy with the Cherries.

11. Kevin-Prince Boateng

From: Sassuolo

To: Barcelona

Fee: Loan

If John Obi Mikel’s move to the Riverside was the most bizarre transfer on this list so far, Kevin-Prince Boateng’s loan signing at Barcelona from Sassuolo tops it.

The Ghana international has had a nomadic career, finding himself at various clubs in England, Italy, Spain and Germany, but Barcelona represents the biggest club he has turned up at, by far.

Boateng is versatile, being able to play behind the striker as well as across the forward line, and will provide experienced cover for Barcelona’s attack. If he can do that job successfully, the Blaugrana may sign him permanently for £7m in the summer.

12. Ashley Cole

From: LA Galaxy

To: Derby County

Fee: Free

Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard had a ridiculous trophy haul together during their time at Chelsea, while the pair also shared the pitch for England on countless occasions over the years.

And, now, Cole will work under his mate at Derby County, as Lampard brings in the experienced left-back on a free transfer following the expiry of his LA Galaxy contract.

What you’d give to be a youngster developing at Derby County right now…
