Martin Cáceres has arrived in Turin for a medical ahead of his return to Juventus from Lazio.
The former Barcelona and Southampton centre-back is set to embark on his third spell with the Old Lady as the defending Serie A champions look to replace the departing Medhi Benatia.
Caceres’ return to Juventus: Five things you need to know…
- Caceres first joined Juventus in 2009 on a season-long loan from Barcelona, though his time was hampered by injuries.
- He would then return in 2012 from Sevilla, first on loan before making the move permanent a year later.
- Cáceres remained in Turin for five seasons, making 89 appearances, scoring six goals and winning five Series A titles before leaving for Southampton.
- And the centre-back is set to return to Juventus once more after being pictured ahead of his medical.
- Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has also confirmed Medhi Benatia’s imminent departure from the club.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is confident that the Uruguayan will settle in quickly at his former club and that he will make a good contribution to the team.
“Martin Caceres is not a makeshift solution, but a strong choice, because Medhi Benatia has asked to leave,” Allegri told reporters.
“I know Caceres and he can give a lot to Juventus.
“He is a player who is ready to go here, while others would take more time settling in, learning the environment.”

Juventus accept Benatia’s transfer request
Benatia, who is reportedly heading to Qatar side Al Duhail after snubbing Arsenal, has received Allegri’s blessing who saw no point in keeping a player that doesn’t want to stay.
“Benatia made a choice and the club evaluated and accepted his request. It wouldn’t make sense to keep a player here who is reluctant [to stay]. He made great strides at Juve, but I’m sorry about his choice [to leave].”
Despite Caceres clear abilities to play anywhere in a back four and his experience, Juve fans have had mixed reactions to his return to the club after having made only four times for Lazio in Serie A this term.
Juventus are currently top of Serie A with a nine-point lead over second-place Napoli. They head to Caceres’ former club Lazio on Sunday.
