Elseid Hysaj will look for a move away from Napoli in January, according to the player’s agent.
The right-back had been linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, following Maurizio Sarri and Jorginho, but it was supposedly vetoed by new manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Will Hysaj leave Napoli? Five key things to know…
- When Sarri and Jorginho left Napoli for Chelsea, full-back Hysaj was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
- According to his agent, however, the move was scuppered by an agreement between Chelsea and Napoli.
- After a solid start to the season, Hysaj has been played by Ancelotti in only one for Napoli’s last four games.
- And the full-back’s agent has insisted he will ask for a transfer away unless things change.
- Hysaj played 243 times under Sarri at Napoli, recording eight assists.
Hysaj started the new season regularly starting but was benched for recent matches against Liverpool, SPAL, Inter and Bologna, something which has angered his agent, Mario Giuffredi.
Speaking to Radio Marte, Giufreddi said: “He could have gone with Sarri to Chelsea, but Ancelotti blocked everything.
“He even publicly said recently that he was counting on him for this last period, but the facts say that in the last four games, Hysaj has only played one.”
Giuffredi then went on to threaten a move away from Napoli for Hysaj in January, should Ancelotti decide the full-back is no longer a starter.
He added: “Therefore that probably means he’s not too important for the coach. If Ancelotti no longer considers him a starter, and wants to remove the disturbance, we’ll do it.
“Hysaj doesn’t deserve this bad treatment, considering how much he’s given Napoli in the last three years, and also because it’s professionally correct to be clear in life.
“Maybe it’s just a transitional phase, but every coach makes his choices and it’s right that’s the case. So if Hysaj has become fourth choice it’s only right they communicate that to us.
“If this is a transitional phase we’ll soon see Hysaj as a starter again, or at the very least playing more consistently, but if Hysaj is no longer valued by the coach we’ll ask for a transfer in January.”
Hysaj has played 18 games across all competitions for Napoli this season, starting 15 and recording one assist.
Would ‘€60m-rated’ Hysaj have fit in at Chelsea?
The Albania international has for a long time been seen as a player with huge potential.
His agent seems to speak publicly of interest from big clubs such as Arsenal or Juventus every transfer window.
The latest is Chelsea, and it makes sense. The Blues have reverted from their back three under Antonio Conte to a traditional back four and Hysaj is a player Sarri has previously coached.
At Napoli this year, Hysaj has seen competition from Kevin Malcuit for the right-back role, something the Albanian’s agent has previously hinted at causing more interest from Chelsea.
“Chelsea in for Hysaj? If you see Napoli are playing Malcuit and hear they’re looking at other players, it means there are also enquiries,” he said in November.
“Those who say otherwise are misinformed. Hysaj is a player who can do well in English football, given he’s very physical and being watched by big clubs. Is he worth €50m? He’s worth €60m for me.”
Chelsea are currently using 29-year-old Cesar Azpilicueta in his natural role at right-back having previously played centre-back and left-back since joining the Blues in 2012.
The Spaniard has done well for Sarri so far but has little competition with Davide Zappacosta rarely used and Victor Moses – who had been wing-back under Conte – considered more of a winger.
