Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis has ruled out a move for Everton winger Yannick Bolasie in this transfer window.
Bolasie is now back training with the Toffees after he cut short his loan at Championship side Aston Villa.
Should Boro sign Bolasie? Here is what you need to know…
- Yannick Bolasie moved to Everton from Crystal Palace for £25 million in 2016.
- The DR Congo international suffered a serious injury early in his Toffees career, forcing him to sit out the majority of his first season.
- The winger struggled to get back into the Everton starting eleven and subsequently moved to Aston Villa on loan this season.
- After making 21 Championship appearances – scoring two goals – Bolasie opted to move back to Goodison Park.
- Before moving to Villa, Pulis was extremely interested in bringing the 29-year-old to the Riverside.
Boro came close to signing Bolasie in the summer but the former Eagles man decided on a move to Aston Villa instead despite previously working with Pulis at Crystal Palace.
Now back at Everton, Bolasie is looking to make the next best move in his career but Pulis has already ruled out a return in interest in the player, insisting the club have not considered trying to bring him to Teesside once again.
“Yannick will not come here, we have not spoken about him,” Middlesbrough manager Pulis told reporters.
What next for Bolasie?
The rapid trickster was highly thought of at Selhurst Park.
Signed for roughly £500k from Bristol City, Bolasie formed a great partnership with Wilfried Zaha as the Eagles achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2013.
Instrumental in their continued survival in the Premier League, Bolasie left the club with no hard feelings, with the DR Congo man getting a big move and Palace getting a massive profit on a player that had given them so much.
But now, it seems as though Bolasie’s career has stalled, with Everton manager Marco Silva admitting that he was surprised by Bolasie’s abrupt return to Merseyside and that he isn’t sure what is going to happen with the player.
“What I don’t want is for Bolasie not to play again. It doesn’t mean I have already decided what will happen,” said Silva.
“Let’s see what will happen at the end of the market.
“When he took the decision to come back we didn’t expect it, even though he has that option in his contract.”
