Alexander-Arnold’s recent record earns match ball from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he gave Trent Alexander-Arnold the match ball after his hat-trick of assists during Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Watford on Wednesday.

Liverpool thrashed the Hornets to ensure they remain one point clear at the top of the Premier League table, with braces from Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk, as well as another strike from Divock Origi, doing the damage.

How did Alexander-Arnold become a record breaker? Five key things to know…

  1. Since making his debut in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has made 70 appearances for Liverpool.
  2. During that time, he has provided 10 assists and scored four goals.
  3. Three of those assists came in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Watford on Wednesday.
  4. This made him the youngest player to notch a hat-trick of assists in a single Premier League game.
  5. Jurgen Klopp rewarded this achievement by giving him the match ball.

But it was Alexander-Arnold who arguably played the biggest role in the rout, setting up three of the five goals and becoming the youngest player in Premier League history to record a hat-trick of assists in a single game.

Klopp rewarded the young England international with the match ball and has since stressed the importance of the right-back to his squad.

When asked about the value of his attacking full-backs, Klopp told reporters: “It is so important. Not many young boys want to say they want to be a full-back but they are now much more important.

“The game has changed now and you have to be really strong defensively but now teams clear the wings for the full-backs you have to have the football quality to put crosses in at the other end too.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been part of a game where someone got a hat-trick of assists. Let’s try to do something like this again.”

Ince: Man City panicking, Liverpool look like title winners

While Liverpool were busy thrashing Watford to remain top of the Premier League table on Wednesday, Manchester City laboured to a 1-0 win over West Ham United at the Etihad to remain in touch with the Reds.

And former Liverpool midfielder, Paul Ince, believes City’s performance against the Hammers showed they are panicking as the title race heads into its final 10 games, while he also stated the Reds look like title winners.

“People have been voicing their concerns about Liverpool over the last few weeks, with the draws they have had, but what they did to Watford proved they’re back on form and silenced their critics,” Ince said.

“They terrorised Watford. That’s the title-winning Liverpool we saw four or five weeks ago and for most of the season.

“I’d say Manchester City were nervous looking at that – knowing that the title is going to go right down to the wire.

“You can sense the panic at City, and the West Ham result proved it. It wasn’t convincing at all, and with five minutes to go Kevin De Bruyne was running the ball into the corner flag.

“It’s not often you see a City team do that, and that shows to me that they’re panicking, you can see they’re feeling the pressure.

City face Bournemouth on Saturday while Liverpool have a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday.
