Arsenal vs Manchester United predictions & match preview

Arsenal v Manchester United is this weekend’s crunch Premier League clash in what is a hotly contested race for a Champions League place.

The Red Devils head to the Emirates in buoyant mood after their remarkable comeback win over PSG, the latest in a long line of impressive results under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian has now lost just one of his 17 games since taking over from Jose Mourinho, notching up an 82.4% win rate.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have lost just one of their last seven league games, a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in February, and have scored in every single one of those games. The Gunners currently occupy fifth place in the Premier League and are just a point behind their visitors heading into Sunday’s game.

Should Arsenal fear resurgent Lukaku?

After going nine games without a goal and looking totally out of sorts, Romelu Lukaku has turned things around thanks to United’s injury crisis, scoring six goals in his last three games with a trio of braces against Crystal Palace, Southampton and PSG.

The Belgian is in the mood and, furthermore, has five career assists against Arsenal, more than against any other opponent.

Arsenal’s home record vs Man Utd’s away record: something has to give

Unai Emery has stabilised Arsenal at the Emirates in recent months. The Gunners are on an eight-game winning streak at home in the league, dating back to their 4-2 win over Spurs in December.

In United, though, they’re facing away-day specialists. The Red Devils have won all six of their away games under Solskjaer, including their 3-1 FA Cup win over Arsenal in January.

Head-to-head

Sunday’s encounter will be the 230th time these old foes will lock horns, with United looking to extend their four-game unbeaten run against the Gunners in all competitions.

Furthermore, should Solskjaer get another away win, it’ll bring the Red Devils to a century of all-time wins over Arsenal.

Arsenal wins: 82 Draws: 48 Man Utd wins: 99

Team news

Hector Bellerin (knee), Danny Welbeck (ankle) and Rob Holding (knee) remain out of contention, while Lucas Torreira is suspended after his red card in last week’s North London Derby.

United are boosted by the return of Paul Pogba, who was suspended for the PSG win, but will remain without Antonio Valencia, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard.

Anthony Martial, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones are all major doubts.

Predicted Arsenal XI: Leno; Monreal, Koscielny, Sokratis, Mustafi; Xhaka, Guendouzi; Iwobi, Ramsey, Mkhitaryan; Lacazette.

Predicted Man Utd XI: De Gea; Shaw, Lindelof, Smalling, Young; Fred, McTominay, Pogba; Pereira, Lukaku, Rashford.

Squawka prediction

This is an absolute crunch match for both sides.

A win for United would surely make them firm favourites for a top-four spot and could even knock Arsenal out of the running. A win for the Gunners and it’s blown wide open with Chelsea still to consider either way.

Despite an upturn in form for Arsenal, United have been far more consistent and, in all honesty, absolutely fantastic under Solskjaer. The Red Devils beat Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates in the FA Cup and we’re expecting a similar outcome this time.

Arsenal 1-2 Man Utd.
