Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Unai Emery has what it takes to win the league with Arsenal.
Guardiola and City won the title last year, 19 points clear of second-place Manchester United and 37 points clear of the Gunners who finished in sixth.
City’s goal difference was also vastly superior to the Gunners who finished last season with a difference of 23, the Citizens finished on 79.
Despite the disparity between the two sides, Guardiola has been generous about the north London club’s chances this term, and the Spaniard thinks they can go all the way with Emery.
“They can do it,” he told a news conference (via Goal). “He has enough experience to know exactly what [it takes]. He was in France, he was with many teams in Spain, so he has a lot of experience.
“Maybe my advice is alright for me but it might not work for him. People spoke to me when I arrived saying it’s like this or like that, but I discovered many things during the process, watching what happens.
“He is a smart, intelligent, well-prepared manager, so he will know exactly what to do.
“I have a lot of respect for his career, starting from the bottom and making an excellent career, winning titles and making his teams difficult.
“Now he is at Arsenal, one of the best teams in England, and of course he is a contender to win titles.”
How capable Emery’s side are will be put to the test on Sunday when they host the champions at the Emirates. Arsenal haven’t defeated City in the Premier League since December 2015, when they beat them 2-1 at home.
