Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic has poured cold water on speculation Luka Jovic will decide his future before the season finishes.
Jovic has been in stellar form, currently sitting alongside Robert Lewandowski for most Bundesliga goals this season (15), which has naturally alerted some of Europe’s elite clubs, including Barcelona and Chelsea.
Could Jovic leave this summer? Five key things to know…
- Jovic is currently on a two-year loan deal from Benfica but the club have the option of buying him outright for £5.3m.
- Eintracht Frankfurt are exploring this possibility, but will reportedly sell him off for circa £50m after.
- Jovic is hot property after scoring 21 goals in 32 matches across all competitions this season.
- Barcelona are reportedly leading the chase to secure his signature with the club in desperate need of a striker.
- Ernesto Valverde has just one senior striker at his disposal after the club sold Munir El Haddadi in January.
A stampede of clubs are in hot pursuit of the Serbian international, with offers believed to have been made already, such has been the 21-year-old’s devastating exploits at the Commerzbank-Arena.
Since joining the club from Benfica last season, Jovic has notched 30 goals in 58 matches, with his performances helping Die Adler clinch the coveted DFB-Pokal trophy last campaign at the expense of Bayern Munich in the final.
Among the clubs linked, Chelsea reportedly have Jovic in their crosshairs with Maurizio Sarri yet to decide on the future of Gonzalo Higuain, but Bobic has told clubs they will have to wait to sign the clinical marksman.
“He’s developing, he’s great, he’s scoring a lot of goals,” Bobic told Sky Sport. “What do I know? We’ll see about that, but nothing in February, and now in March, because even the big clubs have to look first.
“Will they be league champions? Do they play Champions League? It will be decided much later when they’ve made big offers.
“I’m not worried. First of all, let’s see if we can achieve something this season, that’s the most important thing.”

Could Bayern poach another rival player?
Bayern Munich have forged a reputation over the years for poaching star players from rival Bundesliga clubs, ultimately strengthening their squad while weakening those threatening their stranglehold.
Borussia Dortmund have suffered immensely in recent seasons with players like Lewandowski, Mario Gotze and Mats Hummels relocating to the Bavarian giants.
Last summer Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen also fell victim, with the departures of Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry respectively.
Eintracht Frankfurt have been in fine form this season, currently sitting fifth in the league, with Jovic rivalling Lewandowski for the ‘Kicker Torjagerkanone’ for most Bundesliga goals in a single season.
As such, the Serb has been heavily linked with a move to the Allianz Arena with Niko Kovac seeking to bolster his attacking armoury this summer after a tentative start to his reign, but Bobic insists contact is yet to be made.
“I do not know,” he added. “I do not know what’s going on behind my back, I can only say that officially there’s been no contact [between Bayern and Frankfurt].”
