How Barcelona fans reacted to KPB's debut

Barcelona’s new loan signing Kevin-Prince Boateng has expressed his ambition to stay at the club for many years to come.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player moved to the Catalan giants from Italian side Sassuolo on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy in the summer.

Can Boateng become a Barca legend? Here is what you need to know…

  1. Kevin-Prince Boateng has joined Barcelona on loan until the end of the season from Serie A side Sassuolo.
  2. Barcelona have an option to buy the forward for €8 million at the end of the season.
  3. Boateng was signed as a back-up centre forward having previously been linked with Alvaro Morata, Carlos Vela and Fernando Llorente.
  4. And the Ghanian is already planning for future in the long run, hoping to stay at Barcelona past the end of the season.
  5. Boateng scored four Serie A goals in 13 outings for Sassuolo this season, 14 fewer than Barcelona’s top scorer in La Liga, Lionel Messi (18).

The newly-signed Boateng was speaking to a packed press conference on Tuesday afternoon about his enthusiasm at joining one of the most prestigious clubs in the world.

Boateng explained in no uncertain terms that it is his goal to remain at Barcelona well-beyond the expiry date of his current loan agreement.

“My aim is to stay here for many years,” he said.

“I know I do not arrive as someone who will start every game but this is my motivation, to play well and make a positive impression.”

Upon his arrival, Boateng was added to Barcelona’s Copa del Rey squad, replacing Denis Suarez whose future is currently in doubt.

And the former Ghana international got his first taste of Camp Nou action, starting up front in Barcelona’s 2-0 defeat to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey first leg on Wednesday night.

“I am important for the squad”

The former Portsmouth player will now join up with the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez as the club battle to win La Liga once again, while also juggling their European ambitions.

Barcelona face Ligue 1 side Lyon in the knockout stages of the Champions League and with their busy schedule, they will need Boateng to adapt to the hectic regime at the Nou Camp.

Boateng believes he is more than up for the task ahead. He said: “I believe I am important for the squad because I am not just a number 9, I can play in different positions and that is important for the squad.”

He did express sadness at departing his former employers but that couldn’t overshadow the sheer delight he exuded when discussing his latest move.

“It is an incredible feeling to be at this club, it was sad to leave Sassuolo of course because I was very happy here but this is such an amazing opportunity, I could not say no.

“My aim was to come to Barcelona and as soon as I heard of the interest, it could not happen quickly enough.

“It is an honour to be here and a dream come true.”
