Kylian Mbappe‘s speed makes him “impossible to catch” according to his Paris-Saint Germain teammate Julian Draxler.
Mbappe scored his ninth international goal of 2018 in a 2-2 draw with Iceland last week and could come up against Draxler when France meet Germany in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday.
The teenager’s incredible speed caught the eye at the World Cup over the summer, where he was on the scoresheet in France’s victory over Croatia in the final.
And Draxler, who was part of the German squad which crashed out in the group stages in Russia, has admitted Die Mannschaft must change how they defend to deal with Mbappe’s speed.
“If he has space to get started, it’s almost impossible to catch him with his 300 hp,” Draxler told T-online (via Goal).
“His speed and his finishing [are his biggest weapons]. We must not allow him to use either, by defending very compact.”
PSG teammates
Since Mbappe joined PSG in the summer of 2017 he has made 51 club appearances in all competitions, while Draxler has made 52 appearances since the beginning of last season.
Mbappe has scored 31 goals in that time, but Draxler has scored only six.
Indeed, Draxler has mostly been used from the bench since Mbappe and Neymar signed for PSG, and it’s understandable why the German has struggled to retain his place.
Mbappe has found the net 10 times in just seven appearances so far this term, including four goals against Lyon in a Ligue 1 game.
