Eden Hazard ruled out of Chelsea v BATE Borisov

Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard has been ruled out of Thursday night’s crunch game with BATE Borisov.

The winger, 27, has been in scintillating form for the west London club but now faces a spell out of action with a back injury.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri explained that the Belgian will not be part of the squad, and that the forward already on eight goals this season may miss the weekend’s Premier League fixture with Burnley as well.

“Tomorrow [he] is out for sure,” Sarri told a news conference on Wednesday, via Goal.

“He has a back problem and we are trying to solve the problem for Sunday. It’s not very easy.”

Jorginho is also likely to miss out against the Belarusian side, with Sarri contemplating resting the Italian passing metronome with an eye on Burnley and the League Cup a few days after.

“The problem will be on Sunday, when we will play after 65 hours, so we need to change something,” Sarri added.

“For example, Jorginho needs to rest now because he played for 90 minutes in the two matches with the national team, then for 90 minutes – or, better, for 100 minutes – in the last match [against Manchester United].”

Chelsea are currently two for two in Europe this season, having beaten MOL Vidi and PAOK in their previous Europa League ties.

It remains to be seen whether the Blues can maintain that record as they welcome a BATE side top of their domestic league to Stamford Bridge, with three points in Group L after a win versus MOL Vidi and a defeat to POAK.
