Alexander-Arnold unfazed by Klopp’s rotation

Liverpool‘s defensive starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold has welcomed healthy competition within the squad because it keeps “everyone on their toes.”

The young right-back has been a key member of Liverpool’s defence this season, starting 10 matches in total with the club conceding just six goals in those games.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been highly praised for their defensive stability, as they had conceded 16 Premier League goals at this stage last season compared to the three they have shipped in this term.

Despite this, Alexander-Arnold has found his position on the bench the previous league two matches, though the talented tyro admits he is not unnerved by the rotation policy, insisting it has not hampered his confidence.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “It is a world-class club and there is competition for places, so it’s wrong if you think you’re going into a game and starting week in, week out. It’s only right there is rotation; to keep everyone on their toes is the best way to get the best out of people.

“We know there is still a lot to give and we can still get better at a lot of things – there’s always room for improvement. It’s something we’re all excited about and something we know we need to strive towards is getting better, putting in better performances and reaching our full potential as a team.”

‘Captaining Liverpool would be a dream come true’

Despite still in the formative years of his nascent career, Alexander-Arnold has already set his sights on one day captaining his boyhood club.

The England international turned 20 earlier this month, making him just three years younger than Steven Gerrard was when he first took the armband, but the defender knows it will be about patience and perseverance to reach the milestone.

He added: “It’s something I’ve always dreamt of. An aim and a goal of mine is to become it. There is still a lot of hard work to go, so it’s about being patient, keep working hard and hopefully one day the opportunity might come.”

Liverpool next host Cardiff City in the Premier League on Saturday.
