Chelsea still want to sign Elseid Hysaj from Napoli, says agent

The agent of Napoli right-back Elseid Hysaj says Chelsea remain keen to acquire his services.

Hysaj, a fixture under Carlo Ancelotti as well as his predecessor Maurizio Sarri now in charge at Stamford Bridge, sees his present deal with the Neapolitans expire in June 2021.

Napoli, understandably, want him to pen a new contract but the Albanian’s agent Mario Giuffredi has cooled down any upcoming talks citing the competition with Kevin Malcuit, meaning he’s no longer a guaranteed starter which could open the door for interested parties such as Chelsea.

“Chelsea in for Hysaj? If you see Napoli are playing Malcuit and hear they’re looking at other players, it means there are also enquiries,” he told Radio CRC.

“Those who say otherwise are misinformed. Hysaj is a player who can do well in English football, given he’s very physical and being watched by big clubs. Is he worth €50m? He’s worth €60m for me.”

The rise of Hysaj

Hysaj, born and raised in Malësi e Madhe, began his footballing journey at Shkodra (2002-09) before joining Italian club Empoli where he made his professional debut.

It was at Empoli, whom he made no fewer than 102 league appearances for, that Hysaj first crossed paths with Sarri and he’d follow the ex-banker to Napoli in 2015 where he’s played 148 matches in all competitions to date.

Nominally a right-back, though he can play left-back if needs be, Hysaj to date has collected 42 international caps including featuring in all three of Albania’s matches at Euro 2016.

So far Hysaj has played in all but three of Napoli’s 16 matches this season (missing one Serie A game and two in the Champions League).
