Bakayoko impresses Gattuso in Genoa win despite worrying start

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has showered praise on midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko following their recent 2-1 win over Genoa.

The 24-year-old French international is currently enjoying a season-long loan at the Serie A giant from Chelsea once it become apparent there’s no place for him under Maurizio Sarri.

His assimilation to life in Italy hasn’t been the smoothest, with Gattuso expressing unhappiness, but those days are seemingly behind after Bakayoko impressed in the Rossoneri’s dramatic victory against Genoa.

“Bakayoko had a great game today,” he said in a press conference, as reported by Football Italia.

The occasion marked Bakayoko’s sixth league outing for Milan and the first time he’d complete the full 90 minutes.

Bakayoko joined his parent club from French champions Monaco in the summer of 2017 but endured a difficult first campaign at Stamford Bridge – featuring no fewer than 43 occasions for the Blues registering three goals and three assists – under former boss Antonio Conte.

Since the arrival of his successor Sarri he’d fall down the pecking order with Chelsea bolstering their midfield options by recruiting Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic (albeit on loan) from Napoli and Real Madrid respectively.

Bakayoko’s acquisition was the eighth made by Milan ahead of this Serie A season with Gonzalo Higuaín’s arrival from Juventus being the most high profile.

Under club legend Gattuso the Rossoneri finished sixth last season and they begin their 2018/19 campaign at home against Genoa on August 19.
