Christensen doesn’t see his future away from Chelsea

Andreas Christensen doesn’t expect to leave Chelsea in January, but has expressed displeasure at his current lack of playing time.

The centre-half was a mainstay in the Blues’ defence during the final year of Antonio Conte’s reign, playing 40 games in all competitions.

However, Christensen, 22, has only featured in six games so far for Chelsea this season, with none of them coming in the Premier League.

Christensen started for Denmark in Friday’s 2-1 Uefa Nations League win over Wales and, speaking to Sky Sports earlier in the week, the former Borussia Mönchengladbach man confirmed that he will be looking for more playing time as the season progresses.

“If you asked every player that’s not playing if they’re happy, they’re going to say no,” he said. “Everyone wants to play.

“I can’t do anything else but go back there, train and do my best. Every time I get that opportunity, I have to do well and show him (Sarri) that he can count on me.

“You don’t want to sit around and wait for it. You want to play straight away and that’s why we all play football.

“Not playing is not fun. It’s a different situation to last season.”

When asked if his lack of playing would lead to a January move away from Stamford Bridge, Christensen said: “Difficult question. No, I don’t think so.

“Things are different from last season. I played a lot of games [last season] but this season it hasn’t been like that. It’s always difficult for a player but we’ll see what happens.”

Following their win over Wales on Friday, Denmark have secured promotion to Uefa Nations League A for the next edition of the competition.

The Danes face the Republic of Ireland in their next game on Monday.
