Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he could have managed Inter Milan and Roma over the years.
Following a successful spell at Porto, where he won the Portuguese league title and Uefa Europa League in 2011, Villas-Boas managed both Chelsea and Tottenham in the Premier League, although he struggled to achieve success at either.
The Portuguese tactician has since experienced success at Zenit St Petersburg in Russia, before a 12-month spell with Shanghai SIPG F.C. in the Chinese Super League.
However, the 41-year-old has now revealed that he had contact from Inter Milan and Roma in recent years and that Italy is a country he would love to manage in.
“Italy obviously interests me,” Villas-Boas, who was Jose Mourinho’s assistant at Inter, told Corriere dello Sport (via Football Italia).
“From a tactical point of view, it’s one of the most difficult leagues. Over the years I’ve had contact with Inter, Roma and other clubs.
“It never reached real negotiations though as either I was tied to another club or we didn’t agree on the project.”
AVB’s managerial honours
Despite a tough time in the Premier League, Andre Villas-Boas has still enjoyed a successful managerial career that has been littered with trophies.
AVB, who, curiously, didn’t play as a footballer before going into management, got his first break with Portuguese side Academica in 2009.

However, it was with Porto in 2010 where he got his real managerial break, winning a Primeira Liga, Europa League and Taca de Portugal treble in 2011, as well as the 2010 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.
After enduring his tough couple of years in English football, AVB then moved on to Russian side Zenit St Petersburg where he secured a Russian Premier League title, Russian Cup and Russian Super Cup.
Villas-Boas has been without a management job since leaving Shanghai SIPG F.C. in November 2017.
