Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has revealed which club he would like to play for once his tenure in the Premier League comes to an end.
The 26-year-old has been enjoying his football of late as a regular in Unai Emery’s side, who are currently on a mightily impressive 16-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
The Swiss international has established himself at the heart of the Gunners midfield and has been providing some impressive performances for Arsenal who are fifth in the Premier League, having lost just their opening two games of the season.
That hasn’t stopped Xhaka from discussing life after Arsenal, with the tough-tackler admitting that there is just one club that he would like to join when he decides that his tenure in north London has come to its conclusion.
Speaking via Basellandschaftliche Zeitung, Xhaka revealed that he would like to finish his career at boyhood club FC Basel before finally hanging up his football boots.
“Definitely. My career started there. It is a goal, actually, my dream to return someday.
“It won’t be the case at 28. It’ll probably be more like Alex Frei, who’s the best example of how to do it.
“He came back once he was in his thirties, but still performed and helped FCB win a few titles. Of course, the expectations are high when you come back again, but it is clearly a dream.”
Arsenal’s next fixture
We are currently in the middle of the last international break of the year, with Arsenal back in action on the 25th November, when they face a trip to high-flying AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The Cherries are currently sixth in the Premier League table, just four points behind the Gunners.
