Jesse Lingard says he enjoying watching videos of Barcelona legends Ronaldinho and Andres Iniesta in his downtime whilst teammate Marcus Rashford prefers nothing more than reading a book.
The 25-year-old forward has recently established himself as an important figure at boyhood club Manchester United and the England national team subsequently earning plaudits.
A frequent user of social media, sometimes to the chagrin of many, Lingard remains serious about his profession and continually seeks ways of improving himself. One means is studying other footballers notably watching clips of ex-Barça stars Ronaldinho and Andres Iniesta.
“Football videos and things like that, music videos as well,” he told Inside United when asked what he watches on YouTube.
“They are the main things I watch on there. Clips of Ronaldinho, clips of Iniesta, I love things like that.”
However, the same can’t be said for his United and England teammate Rashford, who prefers a more traditional way of spending his free time.
“I’m not really a book person, to be honest,” he added. “Marcus [Rashford] is trying to get me into some, though. He reads books. I can’t remember what they are called, stuff about psychology. Might be an interesting read!”
The rise of Lingard
A graduate of Manchester United’s esteemed academy Lingard would make his official debut for the club following loans spells at Leicester City, Birmingham City and Brighton & Hove Albion.
His proud moment came on the opening weekend of the 2014/15 season; starting in United’s first game under Louis van Gaal, but the Red Devils would go on to lose 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Lingard, in the second half of that campaign, would go on loan at Derby County, before establishing himself as a member of the Red Devils first-team squad. To date, he’s played on no fewer than 141 occasions for the 20-time English champions registering 24 goals and creating a further 15.
The native of Warrington has become somewhat of a player for the big occasions having scored in United’s latest FA Cup (2016) and League Cup (2017) final triumphs.
His performances would earn him an England call-up under Gareth Southgate; he’s since won 22 caps (scoring four goals and creating three for his teammates) and would play in all but one of the Three Lions seven games at this summer’s World Cup finals as they reached the semi-finals.
