Pep Guardiola in love with midfield master David Silva

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted he “loves” working with midfielder David Silva.

The Spaniard has been at City since 2010 when he signed from La Liga side Valencia. He has become one of the club’s most decorated players since then, winning three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups.

His role has developed and changed over time and manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he believes the player to be one of the best at playing in the half spaces.

His passing ability and knack of getting space in between the lines has earned him the nickname ‘Merlin’ by fans or ‘El Mago’ to his teammates.

Pep would likely agree with those comments describing the player as “incredible” for his ability to thrive in the role he does.

“Silva is one of the most incredible players playing in the pocket, the space in between players,” Guardiola told the club’s official website.

“He moves in those spaces. Few players can do it, and he is a master at that.

“The fact he played for so long in Premier League says everything. I love being alongside him every day.

“He has lasted so long because he plays football better than the other ones. A footballer can survive, when he moves in a more intelligent way.

“He is better, more intelligent than the other ones, and intelligent players can survive.”

Manchester City reached 100 points last season as they won their third Premier League title. It was Guardiola’s first since becoming manager and Silva played a vital role.

During the 2017/18 campaign the midfielder scored nine times in 29 Premier League appearances while notching 11 assists. His ability to play key passes is one of his main attributes and his 83.76 passes per match last season made him a key man in transitional phases.

This season, his ninth consecutive with the Citizens, he has already got three goals and two assists in nine appearances, helping City to the top of the Premier League table after eleven games.

Guardiola’s side are yet to face defeat in the league but face a tricky game against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday night before facing city rivals Manchester United in the derby on Sunday.
