Ranked: The Premier League clubs most reliant on their top goalscorer

After 11 games of the new Premier League season, there are currently three players joint-top of the scoring charts.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all scored seven goals so far this season.

That’s the same amount of goals Southampton and Newcastle United have scored as a team, and three more than bottom of the league Huddersfield Town.

But which player has contributed to the highest percentage of their team’s goals? And which teams rely on their top scorer the most? Read on to find out more.

20. Southampton (Danny Ings)

Goals: 4

Team goals: 7

Percentage of team goals: 57.14%

Southampton have not been the best in front of goal this season and they are highly reliant on top scorer Danny Ings who has contributed with four of their seven goals. Worryingly for Mark Hughes, the forward has only score once in his past five games.

19. Brighton & Hove Albion (Glenn Murray)

Goals: 6

Team goals: 12

Percentage of team goals: 50%

While Southampton are faltering due to an over-reliance on one man, Brighton are being boosted up the table by Glenn Murray whose six goals sees him one of the top scorers in the Premier League so far.

18. Fulham (Aleksandar Mitrovic)

Goals: 5

Team goals: 11

Percentage of team goals: 45.45%

Aleksandar Mitrovic is a very good forward on his day, but the problem for Fulham is they are far too reliant on the Serbian. Contributing to 45.45% of the Cottagers’ goals so far this season, Mitrovic is pivotal to Fulham’s fight for safety.

17. West Ham United (Marko Arnautovic)

Goals: 5

Team goals: 13

Percentage of team goals: 38.46%

Marko Arnautovic has started life under Manuel Pellegrini well, scoring five goals so far this season. But West Ham could do well to be less reliant on the Austrian as he has currently contributed to over a third of their Premier League strikes.

16. Crystal Palace (Wilfried Zaha)

Goals: 3

Team goals: 8

Percentage of team goals: 37.5%

Crystal Palace scored just their eighth Premier League goal of the season at the weekend and just the fifth not to be scored by Wilfried Zaha. In the absence of a recognised striker, the Eagles have been very reliant on their Ivorian playmaker.

15. Everton (Richarlison)

Goals: 6

Team goals: 19

Percentage of team goals: 31.58%

Richarlison loves playing under Marco Silva and it is showing with the Brazilian contributing to almost a third of Everton’s 19 Premier League goals this season. Though fortunately for the Toffees they do have others to provide if Richarlison fails.

14. Tottenham Hotspur (Harry Kane)

Goals: 6

Team goals: 19

Percentage of team goals: 31.58%

For so long Tottenham have been called a one man team, reliant on Harry Kane to keep them near the top of the table. But this season Spurs have shown they are more than just the Englishman with 13 goals not coming from Kane.

13. Watford (Roberto Pereyra)

Goals: 5

Team goals: 16

Percentage of team goals: 31.25%

Roberto Pereyra has breathed new life into his Watford career this season, scoring five goals in the Premier League so far – an impressive return. But the fact the Hornets aren’t overly reliant on the Argentine bodes well with only 31.25% of their goals coming from Pereyra.

12. Bournemouth (Callum Wilson)

Goals: 6

Team goals: 20

Percentage of team goals: 30%

Wilson has been brilliant this season, pondering the question of whether he is due an England senior call-up. But, perhaps more importantly for Bournemouth they have shown they are more than just the striker with 14 goals coming from elsewhere in the squad.

11. Liverpool (Sadio Mane)

Goals: 6

Team goals: 21

Percentage of team goals: 28.57%

Everyone expected Liverpool this season to be all about Mohamed Salah again, and the Egyptian is finally finding his scoring form once more. Combined with the fact he isn’t the Reds’ top scorer – Mane is – it can only be a good sign for Jurgen Klopp as the players start sharing the goalscoring responsibility.

10. Newcastle United (Joselu)

Goals: 2

Team goals: 7

Percentage of team goals: 28.57%

Newcastle were poor at the start of the season but Joselu was finding a way to goal. Fortunately for the Magpies, however, they have pushed on slightly in the Spaniard’s drought scoring five goals as a team since his last effort.

9. Arsenal (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang)

Goals: 7

Team goals: 25

Percentage of team goals: 28%

Arsenal have been very impressive under Unai Emery this season and it is beginning to show with the goal distribution among the squad. Aubameyang may lead the way with seven, but the Gunners also have Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil to chip in with the goals.

8. Wolverhampton Wanderers (Raul Jimenez)

Goals: 3

Team goals: 11

Percentage of team goals: 27.27%

Wolves may have scored just 11 goals so far this season, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are sharing the load with their top scorer, Jimenez, only on three.

7. Manchester United (Anthony Martial)

Goals: 5

Team goals: 19

Percentage of team goals: 26.32%

Martial is in good form recently and has reaped the rewards with five goals in his last four Premier League games. The fact this makes him United’s top scorer may show signs of weakness for the Red Devils, but it also means they do have other scorers to rely on – once Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez rediscover their abilities.

6. Chelsea (Eden Hazard)

Goals: 7

Team goals: 27

Percentage of team goals: 25.93%

The Premier League’s second-highest scorers had looked too reliant on Hazard at the start of the season but with Alvaro Morata finding his nose for goal once more, and nine scored since Hazard last netted, things are looking bright for Chelsea.

5. Cardiff City (Josh Murphy and Callum Paterson)

Goals: 2

Team goals: 9

Percentage of team goals: 22.22%

Cardiff City have not been the best in front of goal but two players stand out above the rest of their squad. Josh Murphy and Callum Paterson have both managed two so far this season, contributing to 44.44% of Cardiff’s goals as a pair but only 22.22% individually.

4. Manchester City (Sergio Aguero)

Goals: 7

Team goals: 33

Percentage of team goals: 21.21%

Manchester City are blowing opposition defences away this season and, once again, it is down to a number of players finding the net. Aguero may have scored seven goals so far this season but it only represents 21.21% of City’s overall total.

3. Huddersfield Town (Philip Billing, Mathias Jorgensen, Christopher Schindler, Jon Gorenc Stankovic and own goal)

Goals: 1

Team goals: 5

Percentage of team goals: 20%

This is a strange one, as Huddersfield have only scored five goals in the Premier League this season – all coming from different scorers. If you take one player away individually, the Terriers manage but as a group including an own goal from Timothy Fosu-Mensah, things don’t look great.

2. Leicester City (James Maddison and Jamie Vardy)

Goals: 3

Team goals: 17

Percentage of team goals: 17.65%

Leicester have had a strange season on the pitch but it is growing positive with Maddison and Vardy finding some form in front of goal. Chipping in with 17.63% of Leicester’s total each, the pair are a vital combination but can also provide alone.

1. Burnley (Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Sam Vokes, James Tarkowski and Ashley Barnes)

Goals: 2

Team goals: 12

Percentage of team goals: 16.67%

Burnley currently have four men each having scored two goals so far in the Premier League this season, combining for a total of 75% of the Clarets’ goals. But individually, each top scorer has contributed to 16.67% of the 12 Burnley have scored meaning Sean Dyche’s men would are the least reliant on a sole top goalscorer than any other Premier League side.
