The Premier League is the strongest league in the world, says Stones

Manchester City and England centre-back John Stones believes that the Premier League is the “strongest league in the world”.

It is widely known that the financial benefits of Premier League football has influenced many a player to come to England to ply their trade.

With broadcast deals around the globe and oil-rich investors making their way towards Englands’s top division, the standard of football has dramatically increased.

City defender Stones – who won his first Premier League title last season with the Citizens – has admitted he believes he is currently playing in the strongest league in world football.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Stones said: “I believe it’s the strongest league in the world, by far. Every team in the Premier League is so strong, no matter where they are in the table.

“You’ve seen last season where West Brom were having troubles, a new manager [Darren Moore] came in, they went to Old Trafford, beat United and we won the league off of that.

“I think that shows that any team can beat anyone and not only the top five, top six is strong.

“At any given moment or time, anything can happen in football, but the depth in the league is good. I think it’s good because no one ever takes their foot off the gas, especially against the top teams.”

How strong is strong?

It turns out, very.

There are currently still three teams – Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea – who remain unbeaten after 10 games, highlighting the talents the three squads possess.

Arsenal have enjoyed a 12-game unbeaten streak under new manager Unai Emery while Tottenham’s financial budget has allowed them to build a brand new stadium (albeit a little behind schedule!).

Larger clubs such as Manchester United and Everton have seen their higher league places come under threat by the likes of both AFC Bournemouth and Watford, who are showcasing how Premier League investment from around the world has closed the gaps between the top six clubs and the best of the rest.

Even newly promoted Wolverhampton have adapted to life in the Premier League, currently sitting 10th and playing some fantastic football to boot.

There are very few leagues in the world where any team can beat the other due to the sheer talent possessed by all of the teams in the English top-flight.

Maybe Stones has a point?
