Yaya Toure picks out the Man City player with the most potential

Manchester City legend Yaya Toure believes that his former team-mate Leroy Sane will go on to become “the best” at some point in the future.

Sane impressed in City’s 3-0 home victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening, which ensured they stay just four points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Can Sane go on to become one of the greats? What you need to know…

  1. Sane joined City in 2016 and has established himself as one of the most exciting young wingers in European football.
  2. The 23-year-old has made 114 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions, scoring 33 goals.
  3. The German already has three trophies to his name with City; Premier League title, EFL Cup and the FA Community Shield.
  4. This season, Sane has continued to impress with seven goals and nine assists in 20 Premier League outings.
  5. Only Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (10) and AFC Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser (9) have provided more assists this campaign.

Former City star Toure was a guest pundit on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football as City defeated Wolves thanks to two goals from Gabriel Jesus and a Conor Coady own goal.

Referencing Sane, Toure believes that his former colleague has the ability to transform into the best player of his ilk throughout world football.

“This kid is going to continue to grow,” Toure said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (via Goal).

“He’s going to be the best, one day, for sure.

“The best of the best because he has these qualities: he’s fast, he has good technique, he’s clever – and he wants to learn.”

Yaya knows a little about succeeding at City

Toure’s television appearance on Monday evening was another reminder of how his ability is missed in the Premier League.

At his peak, the Ivory Coast international was one of the most talented centre-midfielders of his generation, with his pace, power, passing ability and sheer dictatorship of play a major part in the transformation of Manchester City as a football club.

Turning from league strugglers to league champions, Toure helped the club enter their most successful period to date, winning plenty of trophies and personal accolades along the way.

Joining the club in 2011, Toure went on to make a total of 316 appearances for Manchester City, winning three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two Football League Cups and the FA Community Shield.

He is certainly not a bad role model for Sane to try and emulate.
