Arsenal urged to swoop for one of Europe’s most prolific tackler right now amid Man Utd links

Robert Pires says former Arsenal should be looking to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka despite strong competition for his signature with Manchester United reportedly among those interested.

The 21-year-old right-back is enjoying a productive season with Crystal Palace which has subsequently led to him being associated with a number of clubs including the aforementioned Premier League giants.

The rise of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Five things to know…

  1. A graduate of Crystal Palace’s esteemed academy.
  2. He made his debut on February 25, 2018 against Tottenham Hotspur.
  3. Wan-Bissaka has since gone on to make 36 appearances in all competitions.
  4. He’s yet to score but has provided three assists.
  5. Wan-Bissaka was the first Premier League player to make 100 tackles this season.

Since breaking through at Crystal Palace in February 2018 the London-born full-back has been nothing short of a revelation.

To date, he’s featured across 36 matches in all competitions and has fast become known for his old-school defending. This season in particular he’s shining: Wan-Bissaka became the first Premier League player to make 100 tackles before Everton’s Idrissa Gueye (105) surpassed him whilst Ricardo Pereira of Leicester City recently joined this exclusive group.

Consequently, his performances have attracted the attention of many clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United with Arsenal also touted.

Pires, who served the Gunners with great distinction between 2000 and 2006, feels his former club should do everything to bring him to north of the Thames.

“Arsenal should definitely be looking to sign Wan-Bissaka in the summer transfer window,” he told bwin.

“He’s exactly the type of player that would suit the attacking full-back role that Arsenal like to play and he would definitely improve the team next season.

“[Hector] Bellerín will have a long road to recovery and Arsenal won’t be wanting to rush him back in too quickly. There’s also the chance that his injury will be a recurring one so they need to have another full-back of the same high quality and I think Wan-Bissaka is that player.”

Battle for Top Four

Right now Arsenal and Manchester United are both locked in another battle. With the championship now being decided between Manchester City and Liverpool it’s fair to say two of next season’s Champions League tickets are being fought between four clubs including the aforementioned pair.

Tottenham, who not long ago were in the conversation regarding the Premier League title, currently occupy third place.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are three points ahead of fourth place Manchester United with Arsenal and Chelsea behind them.

The gap between Arsenal and United is a single point; both meet this weekend at the Emirates Stadium, where the Red Devils recently picked up a 3-1 victory in the FA Cup fourth round.
