Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has continued his feud with Neymar by appearing to insinuate the Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain forward is a fair-weather player.
Emotions were running high at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, as the Red Devils mounted a sensational comeback in their second leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
Cantona vs Neymar: Five things to know…
- This is not the first time Cantona has taken aim at Neymar on social media.
- In 2018, Cantona posted a picture of himself with spaghetti on his head, mocking Neymar’s haircut.
- Cantona reportedly made a shushing gesture toward Neymar’s box after United defeated PSG in the Champions League,
- It is also claimed Neymar’s father took offence to the gesture and went to confront the United legend before ground security separated the pair.
- Cantona appears to have now implied Neymar is a fair-weather player on Instagram.
United started the second leg two goals behind the French giants, but ended up winning 1-3 after a controversial penalty was awarded in the dying embers.
Following the final whistle RMC claim that ‘King Eric’ and one of his friends made shushing gestures in the direction of Neymar’s box, which Neymar’s father took offence at and walked down to confront Cantona, but had his path impeded by ground security.
The conflict continued after the game with Cantona taking to social media to mock Neymar, who is currently out injured with a broken metatarsal, in a cryptic message reminiscent of his unintelligible comments about sardines and trawlers back in 1995.

When Cantona won his appeal against a two-week prison sentence for delivering a kung-fu kick to a football spectator at Selhurst Park, the Frenchman delivered a garbled statement to waiting reporters. “When seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea,” Cantona said before swiftly leaving the press conference.
His latest dig at Neymar appeared on the Frenchman’s Instagram with all the gusto of that, now infamous, line. Cantona posted a captioned picture of the PSG star which read: “Just like the barbecue, you take it out in spring when the sun begins to shine.”

Another possibility is that Cantona is referring to the fact Neymar’s prognosis on the injury sustained in winter rules him out until April. The PSG forward missed a similar period of the season due to another metatarsal fracture last year, during which Real Madrid knocked the Parisians out of the Champions League.
Evra threatens to slap Jerome Rothen
Cantona was not the only Frenchman and former United player to get into an altercation at the game. Patrice Evra had an epic falling out with former PSG winger Jerome Rothen, who criticised a video Evra had posted from the Parc Des Princes which featured him and Paul Pogba celebrating United’s victory.
Evra unleashed a torrent of abuse at his former Monaco teammate in an Instagram video in which the former United left-back threatened to slap him in the face.
“I was told Jerome said some nasty things about me,” Evra, who was Rothen’s team-mate for two years at Stade Louis II, posted to social media.
“I didn’t believe it but then I was shown the video. Your reward, next time I see you, I’m going to slap you in the face.
“These aren’t empty threats. You know we’ll see each other eventually. You were always a salty pr*ck. I remember when L’Equipe gave you a rating of five and our other team-mates got seven, since you were paranoid of the ratings, you would call the journalist and ask: ‘Why didn’t you give me a seven?’
“Piece of sh*t. Stop telling bullsh*t, stop telling lies. Be careful, because we will cross roads eventually. I am sure we will.”
