Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken about the ongoing spotlight at the club, with the Premier League having joined Uefa in launching an investigation into alleged FFP violations.
A statement was released by Uefa on Thursday regarding their investigations into several alleged breaches of financial fair play, with City one of those involved.
What’s going on with Man City? Five things you need to know…
- Uefa are looking into “several alleged violations of Financial Fair Play.
- German news outlet Der Spiegel published leaked documents allegedly showing City have breached FFP rules.
- It also says City made an illegal payment to Jadon Sancho’s agent while signing him from Watford’s academy.
- City deny these claims, describing the emails as out of context and illegally procured.
- But now the Premier League have released a statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
Naturally, Guardiola was quizzed on the accusations against City that have materialised over the past month.
Asked if City’s financial dealings could taint the legacy Guardiola eventually leaves at City with regards to their football and trophy haul, the former Barcelona coach said: “No, absolutely not.
“When you are fighting, people want to underestimate what you achieve. I’m not too much concerned or worried about what people say.
“If we win the title just because what happens now with Uefa [and] they do not give us credit for what we have done, believe me I… don’t… care! Absolutely zero.
“I know exactly what the guys are doing for the last two seasons and more and that is what remains my feelings.
“I don’t know whether it is important for the rest of the people, but it is important for ourselves.
“When we did it (win) it belongs to us and nobody is going to change that.”
The club had already denied all allegations made by Der Spiegel and Football Leaks, releasing a statement that reads: “The accusation of financial irregularities is entirely false.
“Manchester City welcomes the opening of a formal Uefa investigation as an opportunity to bring to an end the speculation resulting from the illegal hacking and out of context publication of City emails.
“The club’s published accounts are full and complete and a matter of legal and regulatory record.”
