Man Utd links have not bothered Aaron Wan-Bissaka, says Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has insisted that the club are not bothered by high-profile links with talented defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bissaka has enjoyed a fantastic season for Palace who beat Burnley 3-1 in the Premier League this weekend.

The path of Wan-Bissaka: Five things you need to know…

  1. Wan-Bissaka broke through to the Crystal Palace first-team last season, making his debut against Tottenham Hotspur.
  2. Taking over from former first-choice right-back Joel Ward, AWB has made 35 appearances for the Eagles.
  3. At the time of writing, AWB has made the joint-highest amount of tackles in the Premier League this season (99).
  4. England manager Gareth Southgate watched the youngster at Turf Moor today.
  5. His form has led to reported interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United.

Speaking to reporters prior to Crystal Palace’s trip to Turf Moor, Hodgson discussed the apparent interest in his defender by some of the country’s biggest clubs.

The former England manager insists that the links away from the club haven’t impacted Wan-Bissaka in the slightest and that his maturity matches his obvious ability.

Hodgson said: “What I like about him is that he continues to work hard at his game, and the professionalism he shows.

“And the fact he has kept his feet so firmly on the ground when a lot of good things are being written or said about him, and there is the usual speculation when you have a good player, at a club at our level in the table.

“But for Aaron, it doesn’t seem to have bothered him with the speculation. He is happy to be with us and he has signed a long-term contract.

“He works hard at his game to make certain he keeps up that level of consistency and his work rate, and work ethic, with the necessary humility to continue to learn and grow, these are wonderful assets that he has that will make him in to a better and better player.”

Big two weeks for Crystal Palace

This afternoon’s result against Burnley gives Palace a healthy gap between themselves and the bottom three, now looking upwards rather than down.

Next week, Palace host arch-rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, who over recent months have slowly fallen further down the Premier League and find themselves in a relegation battle as the season reaches its end.

A victory against Brighton would practically keep the Eagles in the Premier League for their seventh straight season in England’s top-flight, the most in their history.

The following Sunday, they travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford in the FA Cup quarter-final, with both sides knowing that they are just one win away from a day out at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final.

Exciting times for the Eagles.
