Newcastle’s crazy comeback: Your mega-match report on all of today’s 3 PM Premier League kick-offs

Saturday’s traditional 3pm kick-off slot saw a hearty five Premier League games take place with action spread across the table.

Near the top, Tottenham Hotspur were looking to tighten their grip on third place after a poor recent domestic run, taking on relegation battlers Southampton.

Bottom two Fulham and Huddersfield Town were also in action against Leicester City and Bournemouth respectively.

Meanwhile slightly further up, Newcastle United hosted Everton and Cardiff City travelled to face West Ham United.

But how did the games go down? Read on for all the key details.

Cardiff City 2-0 West Ham United

The match summed up in one stat… West Ham hit the target with just two of their nine attempts of goal against Cardiff.

What does this mean for the Premier League? Despite winning, Cardiff remain in the relegation zone two points behind Burnley in 17th. West Ham also stay ninth as results elsewhere favoured them.

Man of the match? Josh Murphy, who played a role in both of Cardiff’s goals – though was only credited with one assist.

Spare a thought for… Angelo Ogbonna. The Italian was let down by his West Ham team-mates in defence with his 10 clearances and four tackles won ultimately being in vain.

Huddersfield Town 0-2 Bournemouth

The match summed up in one stat… Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser have combined for nine Premier League goals this season, more than any other pairing in the competition.

What does this mean for the Premier League? Huddersfield are now 16 points off Cardiff in 17th with just 24 points left to play for. Bournemouth, meanwhile, have moved further away from the relegation battle.

Man of the match? Ryan Fraser chipped in with a goal and assist, moving him to 16 goal involvements for the season.

Spare a thought for… Huddersfield fans. The Terriers faithful have not been enjoying home games this season, with their team managing just seven goals in 16 Premier League games and relegation edging closer.

Leicester City 3-1 Fulham

The match summed up in one stat… Wilfried Ndidi dominated the midfield against Fulham, winning all nine of his attempted tackles.

What does this mean for the Premier League? With other results going against them, Fulham are now 13 points off Premier League safety, while Leicester close the gap on 10th-placed West Ham.

Man of the match? Jamie Vardy scored two goals and recorded an assist as Leicester gave Brendan Rodgers his first win at the club.

Spare a thought for… Scott Parker. Fulham have improved in their two games under the caretaker manager but they have no points to show for it with consecutive defeats ahead of a frightening fixture list.

Newcastle United 3-2 Everton

What does this mean for the Premier League? Newcastle have strengthened their survival hopes, moving up to 13th, while Everton have dropped to 11th.

Man of the match? Ayoze Perez, who played a part in all three of Newcastle’s goals scoring two and recording one assist.

Spare a thought for… Lee Mason. Aside from Newcastle’s wonderful comeback, the biggest talking point came in three first-half minutes as the home side were awarded a penalty following a foul from Jordan Pickford. The goalkeeper escaped any further punishment despite many believing he had no intention to win the ball, a red card offence. Pickford went on to save the spot-kick and 71 seconds later, Newcastle went two down. Unfortunately for Mason, the referee has since received heavy abuse on social media.

Southampton 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

The match summed up in one stat… Tottenham have lost three Premier League away games in a row for the second time under Mauricio Pochettino.

What does this mean for the Premier League? Southampton have given themselves an increased chance of safety, moving just to 16th. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s grip on third place has been lost with both Manchester United and Chelsea able to draw level if they win their games in hand.

Man of the match? James Ward-Prowse scored his second free-kick in as many games to complete Southampton’s comeback.

Spare a thought for… Kevin Friend. It’s not easy being a referee, but Friend’s performance will be put under the microscope as Kyle Walker-Peters and Eric Dier arguably escaped red cards late on.
