Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has not reached a verbal agreement with Juventus despite the links, according to reports.
The 48-year-old Spanish tactician is currently enjoying a third season in English football and sees his present deal at the Etihad expire following the 2020/21 season.
Could Guardiola leave Man City? Five things to know…
- Pep Guardiola took charge of Manchester City in 2016, replacing Manuel Pellegrini.
- The Spaniard has won three trophies at the club so far, with one Premier League and two League Cups.
- But, with City facing investigation by Fifa, Uefa and the Premier League for Financial Fair Play breaches, Guardiola has been linked with a move away.
- However, according reports, rumours of a verbal agreement with Juventus being reached are untrue.
- Pep Guardiola has previously spoken of his admiration for Juventus.
Ahead of this weekend’s game against Watford it was announced Man City were being investigated by Fifa, Uefa and the Premier League regarding breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. If found guilty, Champions League disqualification and a transfer embargo would be a possibility, which has subsequently put into question Guardiola’s future in England.
On the day Juve extended their lead atop of the Serie A table to 19 points, a report emerged stating Guardiola had agreed a four-year deal to succeed embattled coach Massimiliano Allegri in the summer.
However, that was quickly put to bed with sources close to Guardiola, as reported by the Evening Standard, dismissing any suggestion he was looking to quit.
Guardiola, meanwhile, has welcomed the investigation adding it will not embellish what he’s achieved with the Manchester-based club.

“When you are fighting, people want to underestimate what you achieve,” he told reporters.
“I’m not too much concerned or worried about what people say. If we win the title just because what happens now with Uefa (and) they do not give us credit for what we have done, believe me I… don’t… care! Absolutely zero.
“I know exactly what the guys are doing for the last two seasons and more and that is what remains my feelings. If we have made mistakes we will be punished. It is what it is on and off the pitch – but I’m pretty sure what we have done is incredible. Incredible.
“I don’t know whether it is important for the rest of the people, but it is important or ourselves. When we did it (win) it belongs to us and nobody is going to change that.”
Juve an example for Guardiola
Guardiola’s fondness with Italian football is no secret. His final two European clubs, during an 18-year playing career, were AS Roma and Brescia. It was at those clubs his desire to go into coaching was accelerated. Juventus, in particular, has become an example for City according to Guardiola
“I’ve said many times: what are the best teams in the last decade? Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona,” he said following their FA Cup win over Burnley in January.
“These are the three best teams in Europe. Why? Because every season they win the league, every season they win the cups, every season they are there. Because they are the best.
“We can – not get close to them, because it’s difficult – but imitate them. The best teams have to imitate these three teams, not the other ones.
“When I said Bayern Munich, Juventus, Barcelona are the best, it’s because it doesn’t matter what happened before, they go again. That’s the most difficult thing. Win one title, two titles, that can happen.
“But that consistency, every three days for 11 months during 10 years, that’s what I respect and admire the most. That will be my dream. Every single game and competition we try to do that. And so far, we have done it.”
